Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
I'm a big fan of the strat. Such an expressive guitar. What I like most about them is that they really respond to the player. The note blooms as the attack increases and vice versa. They really seem to come alive though a cranked amp. I've played them all my guitar playing life (20 years or so) and I can't see ever not owning one. I get the generic sounding argument; I do think that you have to work a bit more to get a good sound from a strat. Here's my AVRI '62:

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
The more I read in this forum, the biggerf freak I felt, but now I can come clean and say 'Itoo love Strats (within reason)'.
I got my first in 1984- alright it was a Tokai one, but it was brilliant, so much more what I needed than my other guitar at the time (a now sadly long-gone '78 Ibanez Artist ).
Then I fell in love with the pink paisley ones that came out later in the 80s, and in 1993 I finally got one.
Then, just before Xmas I found a second-hand 2004 USA Strat that had been modded with a SD JB at the bridge and Fernandes Sustainer- always fancied something like that; I have an Ebow, but sustained chords and all that ambient stuff... so I bought it (at a very good price due to the modding). So I'm giving this latest one a while to see how I get on with the Sustainer. If I don't like it, it'll be reverting to being a strat again.
Anyway, here they are:
My Tokai (not original colour!)- the Roland GK pickup has been removed.
80's Japanese Paisley Strat... mmmmm
My latest... photo from the seller's ad.

This thread is getting better, the red one and paisley one are nice, but the thread started out really bad, I don't see why there were pics of a really nice white Jag and a really cool Explorer, takes all the attention away.
Strats are o.k. and can be better if you mess with the electronics.

Yes- my Tokai has a switch for introducing the neck pickup into the circuit so I can have neck+bridge and neck+bridge+middle selections. There is also a swich that knocks the middle pickup out of phase which adds a loadof other tones. The paisley one has the neck pickup switching option as well.rickenmetal wrote: Strats are o.k. and can be better if you mess with the electronics.
Whaddya mean- you don't like the Tokai?!

Just finished this tonite...A Saloondoor Guitars Strat in Dakota Red nitro, Fralin Blues 57 p/ups, 250K CTS pots and a 0.047 PIO cap...
I'm a bassplayer normally, but I really love the sound and feel of a strat through any valve amp. They are simply great.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
the other day i picked up my old '71-'73 parts mustang, now finally with some '73 pups in it. i put a nice RS tone kit in there and the thing just came ALIVE i tell you. i couldn't put it down for 2 hours or so (until the wife came in and gave me that look...).
action is really low but just right. i have 10s on it now but i'm really fancying with the idea of trying 11s now. i only use 11s on the shorter scales, right now.
(old pic, i'll snap a better one later today)
as for the black/black lovers i have ONE recommendation that WILL change yer life and cure that GAS:
'83 Squier SQ-series Stratocaster. all 70s appointments (except for stock 5-way switch), but without the heaviness. they still can be found on ebay for $300-600 or so. DO IT. this was my main giggin/recording axe for many years. i also have a white/cream one of the same series.
1st (well 2nd, technically, after the JV series that were made some months before) generation MIJ squiers. no complaints or hassles.
dew it.
i was a 100% strat man for many many years. and then i joined here...

Totally with you on this... Thus as i type i am in the middle of a lace sensor strat project, just waiting on the tort...This man:
(Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro)
did a lot to make me rethink strats. I kinda pushed them aside as the guitar EVERYONE had, whether it was a knock-off or a real Fender. And I always wanted a humbucker in a guitar before, but now I have to say there's not many tones I like more than the 4th position, with the middle and bridge pickups out of phase with each other (i think thats the term).

I'm a Strat fan too! Not for the look but for the comfy body and neck! I have a CIJ '62 RI and it's probably the best guita I ever had!
THere's something nice with those, the quacky sound! Still love it even with distortion!
Here's a pic:
I have to admit I really love the 70' with the big headstock on a maple board, maybe someday!

Man, that's awesome. Just craft paint? I wish the Billy Corgan Strat would have looked like this.

That's a CIJ? No shit. The workmanship looks so good I thought it was an AVRI or something. I love CIJs but most of the sunbursts look awful, including the one on my main guitar. This is a beaut though, perfect looking in all respects! You got the stock pickups in there?Ti-Ron wrote:I'm a Strat fan too! Not for the look but for the comfy body and neck! Oh incidentally... short scale (24") Strats with 22 frets, do these exist? If so I want in!
