Epiphone SG advice.....
A friend is gonna buy a solid-bodied guitar & has decided on an Epiphone SG.
He's looking at a 1993 Korean model. Any advice? Good, bad, cheap parts, weak pups?
I know next to nothing about SG's.

Re: Epiphone SG advice.....
I like the Korean made ones.
I had a Les Paul standard that was a pretty nice guitar. It didn't have the stock pups when I got it so I can't comment on them.
The hardware wasn't bad at all though.

I used to have a Korean Sheraton II, which was quite a nice instrument, though I couldn't really get on with it due to the humbuckers, so I sold it. But yeah, seems like a good idea.
I am rather partial to these though. The singer of my old band had one, and it was a great instrument. US-made PUs and all.

I dig the Epi SGs. Would suggest a pickup change, though. My friend has one that he threw '57 Classics into, and it's great.

Re: Epiphone SG advice.....
Those Korean Made Epi's are nice.
I have a SG from Epiphone that I picked up for €50 sans electronics, put a old Epi Joe Pass Neck humbucker in the neck and a rather cheap ceramic Artec P-90 humbuckersized (Phat Cat copy) in the bridge.
Upgraded the TOM and Stopbar and put some mini Grover Rotomatic tuners on it. I used to have a Gibson SG Classic for a while and that Epi comes close....Mine has a Maghonie body and a Maple neck...It's one of the most versataile guitars I own. Plays like butter and sounds fantastic....Never had any issues with it.

Re: Epiphone SG advice.....
I had a G-400 for years, and it was basically a really great guitar. Sort the electronics out, though....

Re: Epiphone SG advice.....
The used Gibson specials go for like 4-600 bucks depending on the day. Why not just save up for one of those?

Probably 'cos Mark's dropped the equivalent of the GDP of a small country on gear in the last year or so.pcypert wrote: The used Gibson specials go for like 4-600 bucks depending on the day. Why not just save up for one of those?
