Still not sure if be comfortable taking it out though. Just the risk of me breaking it is pretty high with moving around small bar stages etc. I'm fine with it being a home thing for now.
Everyone says a headstock repair makes them stronger and better sounding :D
It’s interesting that anyone who states said opinion also happens to be selling a headstock repaired Gibson… 🤔
Ha, I'm sure there's no shortage of people just making shit up, but...

While I've never actually owned a headstock repair Gibson, multiple experiences with friends' guitars have led me to the opinion that they usually do seem to sound better after the repair, for whatever reason (as long as the repair was done well)

Maybe it's just a touch of added mass or something, I couldn't say. But at the very least, unless the repair is faulty I don't think the sound suffers.

Oh, and if glued properly, it will be stronger. A good glue joint is stronger than wood.

On a '56 I would nevertheless do everything reasonable in my power to avoid a break, of course.

I'm filtering my search to specific features and discovering that listings that make it through my filter don't actually have those features...
You mean like when you’re search for a vintage guitar by year, and numerous ‘1972’ American Vintage II‘s come up in the search results? Yeaaah, not a fan of that.
More specifically when I filter for manual transmission and cars with Android Auto and cars automatic cars with the base radio come up.

The last piece of the parts-puzzle arrived yesterday and this morning it went into place. Predictably a tight fit but it's in and working.

It barely looks any different from the outside but I guess with these guitars the little details count for a lot...

Another update, and not a positive one.

Turns out, despite cross-referencing about 37462130471263041273 pictures I still managed to buy the wrong bridge pickup :fp: turns out the "50s/60s Gibson P90" that, to my eyes, looked perfect is in fact a 63/64.

Good job it didn't cost me FIVE HUNDRED FUCKING POUNDS

As the kids would say, fuck my life.

Surely the only logical step is sell the pickup for £700, saying it had a headstock repair so it sounds better than a normal 60s pickup?
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

The pickup is worth £500 to someone else though, right?

Just think to yourself: “what has Matt bought this week?” Hopefully that’ll make you feel better

Bit of a niche market and, as you are aware, the market is rather slow right now.

Oh well, sweet FA I can do about it. It's just very annoying and sets me back

So sad to hear this, Johnny! And in saying 50s/60s pickup, that can cover 20 years so ... whaddya gonna do!! Grrr.

I am curious though, what are the differences between the '56 P90 and the '63?

Yeah, it's a bummer but I'll just have to chalk it up to gaining an education. It wasn't quite a 20 year roll of the dice thankfully...I know that they changed to clear bobbins in 67-ish so it had to be from 53-66 and the shielding was 2 strand instead of 3 so that narrowed it down further. But I thought it looked spot-on with my comparison images.

Apparently the giveaways are a different colour grommet on the baseplate and a slight colour change in the hookup wires.

Apparently you can just put a Mastery bridge on the pickup and ask for an extra £400

I did wonder why the grommet that the leads go into wasn't black, when you posted the photo, but then I thought maybe some were different colour and somehow I never noticed. Bummer for sure. :(

You could always pretend you're not sure what it is but that it was pulled from a 1956 LP Custom ...

I mean, you’re still way in the positive on this thing. By the time you sell this pup, even if you take a big hit on it, you’ll only be set back a few hundred at most.
