No, I don't like The Beatles...

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

The funny thing about Rickenbackers to me is that so many guitarists, once they get 'successful,' ditch them for other guitars, the Beatles being example #1. The Who are another. Who stuck with them? Tom Petty? He was a guitar whore. Peter Buck?

So who else? That Fugazi guy that inspired JSett.
John Fogerty
Roger McGuinn

and if we're talking bass then:
Lemmy
Chris Squire
Geddy Lee
maybe the dude from the Stone Roses?

I can only think of Susanna Hoffs.

I was really just thinking guitar. I feel like Roger McGuinn and the 12 string is asterisk territory. :D

Geddy Lee, like his bandmate Alex Lifeson is kinda all over the place with his stringed instrument of choice. It's becomes this "which era?" thing.

Recently on TGP there was this very funny and revealing thread, to me at least :shifty: , where someone asked for the best examples that showcased the sound of PRS guitars. Needless to say all of the stuff was pretty mediocre and/or terrible (to a twit like me at least). There were a lot of people that argued that that was sort of the point of PRS: kind of a blank slate of guitar RAWK sound.

Peter Buck and Guy Picciotto are definitely my inspirations to try one. Also, the 2 guitarists from the (fantastic) modern band Weatherstate used to play a pair of 360s and sounded great. They moved to Teles in the end though.

As great as they look and sound, they are a bit of a dick to play. Big slab back of the body, weird neck taper (which I actually really like), strings REALLY high off the body - almost comically high - overly complicated controls, annoying string anchor system.

No wonder the offset community likes them. Overly complicated and annoying to set up niche instruments are kinds how we roll :D :D

When you say strings high off the body do you mean the actual height of the strings over the body, or the action on the neck? Because the action on mine is the lowest of any guitar that I own. It's like, shredder low.

Strings over body. My action is also blisteringly low.

The archtop-like neck attachment is the main thing I remember about the 360. Really weird. I don't think any of the other Rickenbacker models I've played have felt like the strings had so much space around them.

I did just buy a Rickenbacker, because I like Fugazi and SG's are a ballache.
i haven't got tonnes of ricksperience but saying that they are comparatively less fussy than an SG is very funny to me.

- The Beatles are hands down the most influential and consequential band in history. Whether you like them or not is irrelevant to this fact.

- Radiohead are the GREATEST band of all time in terms of breadth and musicianship.

- Wilco is my all-time favorite band.
I agree with the first two & I do like Wilco a lot, especially the Austin City Limits. The Beatles just covered so much ground musically. They do hold a unique place in musical history & in the culture of the world..
We are merely moving shadows.

Oh, that's only really in reference to SGs having that 'wobbly neck' syndrome where they go out of tune just by moving your body. I love them and I have tried so many but, to me, they're a ballache to me and how I play (a firm grip and moving a lot onstage)

Setup-wise, yeah, SGs win for simplicity. Stability? Almost everything else beats them IMHO.

If you’re into ‘70s prog rock bands you’ll see a lot of bass players using Rickenbackers. They were pretty common in the mid-80s with post-punk and dream pop bands too, possibly due to the prog rock bands, or the need to jingle-jangle.

MC-5 and Steppenwolf utilized Rickenbacker guitars during the ‘70s too.

For guitar players a lot of times they end up as a secondary instrument, especially if it’s a 12-string. A lot of the players I liked coming up had a Rickenbacker even if it wasn’t their main guitar. Will Sargent, Johnny Marr, the Edge, Marty Wilson-Piper, Peter Buck, Graeme Naysmith, Paul Weller, Andy Bell & Mark Gardener, and that’s just the men, there were plenty of women playing Rick guitars and basses for Indy bands.

I’ve always had a Rickenbacker guitar (and bass until recently) around. Sometimes it was the main instrument, but usually it was a secondary guitar for a few songs that needed it.

I recently bought a new 330 on a whim and haven't looked back. It's incredible. And the lacquered fretboard is a delight to play.

I grew up going to Fugazi shows in DC and Guy's Ric was just so cool. And, man, did he lay into it!

Tow that spring to ming are Weldy Melvoin (Prince) and Susanna Hoff's (Bangles). Both favoured Rics at times
