Gretsch Silver Falcon DC CB - with video

Post by stilwel » Mon Apr 27, 2020 5:05 am

This is increasingly becoming one of my favorite guitars. Silver Falcon Doublecut Centerblock.

Here’s a short clip playing Star Sail by Verve.

Really nice guitar, sounds great, too. I want to get a Gretsch guitar one day, either a Falcon or a Billy Duffy model (which is very similar).

Thanks!

The Duffy models are killer and are variations on the classic white/black falcon. They're great guitars, but I tend to get on better with semi-hollows better than full-hollow.

This centerblock model works out great for me. A fully hollow model would have been howling with feedback in this video.

It's thinner too at 1.75", more like 335 thickness, rather than 2.75" of a traditional Falcon.

Yeah, I haven’t played very many semi or fully hollow body guitars, mostly one when I was pretty young. I remember the feedback being a problem, if I was going high gain.

But it had a really sweet tone of the gain wasn’t too high up, just something you can’t really get from a solid body.

If I were doing to spend that kind of money, I think I’d have to check a few out to see which one would work for me. Thanks for the info, I’ll keep that in mind if I do go for one of these one day.

Looks and sounds awesome. I have the single cutaway version. I went back and forth between the double cut with the Bigsby and the single cut with a Cadillac tail piece.

I went with the center block for the same reason. Thin line depth and less feedback. The Phoenix and full size Falcons were just too big and this version fits perfectly. So easy to play.

I like the gold on a White Falcon, but not a fan on Black. I love the silver and black though, ever since I saw Robert Smith showing his off a long, long time ago.

If I was going White Falcon I think I’d get a double cut.

That's dead sexy.

I like black/gold together, reminds me of a Black Beauty LP Custom.
If I had it to do over again, I'd probably go singlecut with gold hardware & Bigsby instead, but I love this one as it is.

This is a gorgeous guitar! Congratulations! I hadn’t heard that song for quite some time. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds and looks great!

The silver and black is spot on!

And great to hear some early Verve being played in a demo! 👌🏻

Early Verve is the best Verve.
This is the very first Verve song I ever heard and it’s still one of my favorites.
