NGD Sorrento!
I'll fess up to buying the '62 Sorrento posted last week. I should have figured I was doomed when I posted something about having kept 4 guitars around for the last year and reaching some sort of stable state. Telliot's '66 Sorrento in the "show us yer hollow/semi-hollow guitars" got my attention, and this seemed like a good opportunity to try one out. I owe Sookwinder for some excellent guidance while I was considering this.
So far, I'm into it. The neck is very comfortable, on the wide side, not very thick. The pickups are some of the best I've heard—bright but full bodied and forward—and it's super fun to play both plugged in and by itself. It has a tendency to feedback in a very controllable and musical way that I find useful. It's definitely a decent-looking guitar too. I'll try to post some more photos when I get the chance. Now I have to figure out which guitar goes back out into the world.

Re: NGD Sorrento!
I've got one of the limited edition '62 Sorrento reissues they did a few years ago with Gibson mini-buckers and switchcraft electronics, noodling away on it right now and it's a surprisingly lovely guitar.
I string it with D'Addario Chromes, their flatwounds in 10-48 and they work really well with the guitar and tame the harsher top end from the mini-buckers, it's actually one of the most 'jangly' guitars I've ever owned but with a great cutting through overdrives and fuzz.
I can only imagine the 'real thing' is even better. Do try the flatwounds some time though, even though the wound G can be a pain to set up it's a worthwhile experiment. Enjoy!

Re: NGD Sorrento!
I'll have to give the flatwounds a try sometime. I'm tempted to put an old B6 or B3 on it if there's a decent no drill option. Tuning stability could be a bit better, but it's probably the most fun guitar I've had to play since I had a Hagstrom III around a few years ago. My other guitars have had a break the last few days since it came in.

Re: NGD Sorrento!
Sweet and congrats. I always wondered if there was an American predecessor to my MIK Sorrento from the 90s (or was it the 00s). I banged mine up touring and it sat with a hole where the input jack was for years in garage(s). Finally had it restored and setup again by a local luthier who saved it. Anyway, I hope you don't mind me posting this gold thing on your thread. Might put the pickguard on again someday.
Would you believe I used to shove two or three long soccer socks in it to stop it from feeding back on stage?

Glad it stayed in the family. It's so gorgeous.
