Looks like G&L has a new shortie bass

Post by burpgun » Tue Aug 20, 2019 6:52 am

Not sure why I keep finding these cool new G&Ls to share--I've never owned anything by the company in my life--but this short-scale bass they've got coming looks pretty rad. A little competition for the Mustang. https://specialtytraders.com/products/g ... le-gig-bag

Just posted by G&L - have owned/played many short scales but typically I can’t get into 30” scale on a bass; looks awesome, still:

The only way that could get better, to me, would be to either move the pickup to the bridge, or better yet, add a second one.

The G&L "OMG" switch on bass is one of the best passive circuits ever put on an instrument.

I have 3 basses under 31" scale length so I'm probably the exception, but I'm glad to see more SS options proliferating.

The OMG switch is incredible, I've had an L-1000 for 25 years or so now, and that setting is wonderful.

No idea what to make of this short scale bass other than G&L makes the best basses in the world in my opinion, I own three of them right now. If they say it's good, I'll bet it's great.

Wow, I LOVE that. I’ve been feeling very frustrated lately about how badly I want a Mustang Bass, but none of the currently available options check all of the boxes for me, and a vintage one is out of the question. This might fit the bill just right

I don't own a Bass at the moment, but I think this might change that. Interested to find out what the pricing on these might be like.

If it sells well, then they will probably do a Tribute version of it. Those are fine guitars pretty much just a good setup away from being a total winner.

This interview with a G&L guy claims matching headstocks and a blue option on launch. Oh my. https://youtu.be/WkwV8YPTPh8

I'm really quite interested in this. My long-scale needs are fully covered by my '75 Precision and U.S. Jaguar. I like short-scales and want an American-made one. The latest round of Mustangs kinda bummed me out, because I personally have no need for that J-pickup.

Actually, now that I re-read your comment about the pickup position, I see that is is in the same "sweet spot" that the pickup on the L-1000 is, so combined with the OMG switch, we are looking at a short scale L-1000 from the viewpoint of the electronics and vision.

I gotta get my Wunkay into the shop.

The Fallout bass is real and official now and the green one gives me a chubbie. No experience with anything G&L but this video makes the OMG switch sound like something really sweet. I wonder what the price will be?

Knowing G&L, they probably experimented with every location in Leo's office and decided on sticking in the traditional L1000 sweet spot.
