What kind of guitar is this?

A friend of mine just picked up this badass mystery axe at a local shop and we can't figure out what it is. There's no brand on the headstock. Anybody?

It looks similar to one of those old yamaha hollowbody(or is semi-hollow?) guitars from the 60s/70s.
It could be anything really, I'm assuming it's japanese?

certainly looks Japanese to me with the humbuckers and that shape of neck blockage.

Yeah, it's Japanese. In fact the only text anywhere on it is "Made in Japan" on the back of the neck plate (it's a bolt-on). He's gettin' me a pic of the headstock soon, so I'll post that when I get it.

The HBs, bridges, and look of the neck/ inlays looke like an offshoot of Ibanez. Maybe a Ventura or something like that. I had a real cool Ventura Gretsch Country Gentleman replica that played and sounded real nice (but it has a Gibson style headstock
).
