Cheap Classical Acoustic Reccomendations?/NGD
I've been toying with the idea of grabbing one to actually practice classical styles with. Looking to spend $300 or less. Would prefer electric capabilities but doesn't really matter...
Any suggestions?

I recently had a play of an Admira A5 which a friend had bought for his child on instruction from his teacher. I thought it was an amazing and surprising instrument for the £300 or something they paid for it.

La Patrie Étude and Concert guitars.
http://lapatrieguitars.com/guitars.html
It's a Godin subsidiary. Made in Canada, solid, sound good and a good bang for the buck, particularly if you buy a used one.

Some of the older Yairi classicals (with solid cedar tops) are fairly credible for the money. Look for the CY-110 and see if you can snag one in your price range.

This is another good suggestion. These Admiras seem to be made mostly of real woods and that's always a plus to me. Thanks!shadowplay wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 2:34 amI recently had a play of an Admira A5 which a friend had bought for his child on instruction from his teacher. Would highly recommend the 70's-era MIJ Guild Acoustics made under the Madeira (or Madiera?) brand name. Recently bought a C-600 for $120 that I really enjoy.

Does yours have a laminated top? I remember seeing one in pawnshop a few years ago, dunno the model, but it was a Madeira steel-string acoustic guitar and it wasn't expensive. Being interested in everything Guild-related, I considered buying it, until I realized that it had a laminated top.garyfanclub wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 11:30 amWould highly recommend the 70's-era MIJ Guild Acoustics made under the Madeira (or Madiera?) brand name. Re: Cheap Classical Acoustic Reccomendations?
I've read that the Madeiras had an S as a suffix (indicating "solid spruce") if they were solid tops. I've no idea if all Madeiras have clear serial numbers though so who knows how accurate that could be?Bert Camenbert wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 12:58 pmDoes yours have a laminated top? You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Yeah, I see your point. But I'd rather have OSGs response. Forumites here have never stirred me wrong. This forum has exponentially increased my musical gear knowledge over the last 6 years.

Re: Cheap Classical Acoustic Reccomendations?
I took Flamenco guitar in University and have played many nylon string classical and flamenco guitars and at one point was going to drop several thousand on a Conde Hermano or my friend's Grit Laskin. Evidently, I never did that, but I did buy myself a cheap red label Yamaha from an antique market and while it's not concert hall worthy, it has a wonderful sound to it and that's enough for folk or indie rock noodling. I absolutely love it.
So, I'd suggest you check out old Yamaha and other Japanese or Spanish made classical/nylon string guitars. Just as there are great, cheap steel string an electric guitars and you don't need to own a PRS, or whatever, you can easily do the same with nylon string guitars. Look for something that has a nice round, warm, and compressed sound, and you can't go wrong.

100% agree. I learned on a La Patrie classical for the first 6 years that I studied classical guitar and it never held me back. Great instruments for the money.Unicorn Warrior wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 7:25 pmThanks for this suggestion.
