Wiring advice needed
Hey guys, I recently got a 1998 crafted in China affinity telecaster for free! The paintwork was really badly chipped and scratched so its been removed. Also, i just swapped the bridge out for a compensated brass 3 saddle setup. So it's getting there slowly but surely.
However, the pickup leads had been cut from the circuit at some point and rather than putting it back to stock, I'd like to do some kind of stealth wiring mod. I was thinking of adding both pickups in series as an option since I recently did that to my mustang and really love the fullness and extra volume without the muddiness of having a regular humbucker. Rather than ordering a 4 way switch and doing it the conventional way, I've raided my parts drawer and found a cheapo strat 5 way selector.
Now the question I pose to you Offsetters, is how do I wire this up?
The way I'm looking at it is, I have a 5 position switch, 3 standard tele pickup selections, plus series, plus one empty position. Would it be possible to have for example position 5 as the bridge pup wide open? I'm open to suggestions if anyone has a better idea and/or understanding of electronics.
Also, a wiring diagram would really help. I could just order the 4 way switch but so far this entire guitar has cost me roughly £23 including upgrading the bridge so if can improve it even more without spending any money that would be rad!

Great gift!
Here is an Affinity I rescued http://www.tdpri.com/threads/ngd-double ... in.542306/, with the whole circuit diagram in that thread. It has the 4-way blade switch (easiest to for you to use), grease-bucket, and treble-bleed. Reverse control plate to have easier access to the volume knob.
found this diagram, might work, worth a try

Re: Wiring advice needed
that looks great, thanks. i don't suppose the source of that diagram stated a value for that capacitor did it?

With 5-way you could have parallel (standard middle pos) plus series plus out of phase. But that requires the 5-way 'super switch' not just your standard strat-style 5-way switch.

Thanks for the contribution. I would do that, however the out of phase position on my mustang has put me off trying that with single coils again also, it would also require me to buy a switch, whilst not expensive I'm seriously broke and/or cheap

Re: Wiring advice needed
I was going to attempt this, however I wasn't sure what cap value I'd need. Then after eventually finding that out and realising I didn't have one, I opted for just trying to wire it for standard options plus series. The trouble I'm having is that my 5 way switch only has 7 pins whereas all the diagrams are for 8 pin. My switch only has one common which is in the centre with the 2 rails of 3 pins either side of it.found this diagram, might work, worth a try
As it stands, I have the bridge pickup wired to pin 1 and the neck pickup wired to pin 2 so the switch all the way back is just bridge and then the switch in the fully vertical position is the neck pickup with the parallel postion in between. If i put the switch in the position that would be neck and middle on a strat is also only neck on my tele and then what would be the neck only on a strat currently connects nothing to the output on my tele.
So, I somehow need to hookup the bridge pickup ground to the neck pup hot in a way that will hook it back up to ground in every other position
