New Custom Telecaster Custom Day!

Post by Dok » Tue Oct 16, 2018 1:56 pm

Back some six or seven years ago, my friend Ry offered to build me a custom guitar. We chatted a bit about options and designs, settled on some ideas, and that was the beginning of what we both thought was going to be a quick project. But the universe had other plans - I had a long spell of unemployment, he moved across the country a couple of times, there were some business moves and changes, I moved across California, people got engaged and married and shit, and all of a sudden it was 2017 and his new shop was fully operational and I could actually put down a worthy deposit (and more importantly, I really knew exactly what I wanted). Some more time passed while we waited for parts to arrive and spare time to be had and his injured hand to heal up, a couple of months ago it finally arrived. Today I'm finally getting around to posting about it.

Soft-V Neck
7.25" radius fretboard
I forget the fretboard material
Hand-rubbed oil finish on neck
1970s Fender Wide Range Humbucker
Custom wound Kal-Tone bridge Pickup
Swamp Ash Body
Forearm Contour
Les Paul jack plate
Compensated Brass Saddles

A truly incredible instrument that I will enjoy for the rest of my life. It plays and sounds phenomenally and I bonded with it immediately, and as stunning as it is in photos, one really needs to hold the damn thing to appreciate how special it is.

Wow that thing looks great ! Congratulations on your persistence and it all coming together finally. Tele Customs are my favourite Teles. I am slowly assembling (rather than building) one at the the moment, also with a 1970's WRHB, that has been sitting around for some decades waiting for me to use it.

Very nice, my favorite configuration for a telecaster by a long shot. That middle position is just magic.

Enjoy!

Looks great. The action looks high on that one pic, is it just an illusion?

Wow, what a looker!!! Is the pickguard a flat black plastic or anodized?

Thanks, y'all! The pickguard is flat black. As far as the action, that photo of the guitar in profile is a shop photo, so it could have been before the setup was dialed in.
