gibson 2019 lineup.

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

let's see, we have a les paul with more switches, pcb's and knobs than nasa used for the Apollo 11 mission.
les paul dc jr's with an ugly looking guard designed to save production costs.
"interesting" colours for the higher end les pauls
fuck all new for sg's
offset guitars resident bass player.

I'm a little confused. The graphic that introduces the new lineup has a really cool looking 335 with nickel hardware, a Bigsby and a blue metal flake finish. It looks really cool. But I can't find evidence that it's an actual existing model anywhere.

That is cool.

With all those super figured coloured bursts and transparents it's like they got 2019 confused with 1991 or perhaps the folk that wanted a Gibson driveby down PRS street in 1991 are now old enough to afford one.

As much as I hate to admit it, this year's lineup seems to be... kind of a step in the right direction? It's just kinda... meh, rather than downright laughable like previous years. As previously mentioned there's still a bunch of "soooper-innovative" butt-rock colour schemes but for the most part it seems like they're beginning to head back to basics, rather than just flinging a bunch of shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Also I'll second, er, third the motion that the blue 335 is hella cool.

I agree about it being modest progress.

If that blue flake 335 were actually a thing, I might consider buying a new Gibson for the first time in literally 20 years.

Rosewood Fretboards – A Return to Form

“One such refinement includes the return of Rosewood fingerboards. Following the recent difficulties related to CITES and the subsequent restrictions on Rosewood, for 2018 Gibson had to resort to using alternatives such as Granadillo and Richlite.

These materials upset some traditionalists, so for 2019 Gibson has re-introduced Rosewood across the board (literally!), adorning it to the majority of their models in the USA 2019 lineup. Although Richlite is still featured on a few instruments, including the High Performance models, Rosewood gives you that unmistakable Gibson feel and tone.”

Which Les Paul is that? I am not finding one with extra switches in the new 2019 range.

Oh, they haven't thrown the ol' shit towel in just yet: behold, the J-45 Humbucker 2019 Blood Orange:
Gibson leads the way when it comes to innovation in the guitar industry. The J-45 Humbucker AG is no different, as it breaks new ground for acoustic instruments. This J-45 offers the forward thinking, tech-minded as well as the traditional acoustic guitar player, a new tool in their arsenal to express themself to the highest level.
I do agree with everyone that, for the most part, Gibson appears to be getting their bearings at least somewhat in the right direction with this lineup (and that the blue flake ES is ice cold).

An acoustic guitar with a pickup. Truly, Gibson is a Modern™ Forward-Thinking™ Fresh™ Innovative™ brand.

Just make your core models and make them well, Gibson. That's all anyone wants from you right now.

the LP jr is pretty awful looking, but I like the idea of the maple neck. I am still dubious of the DC jr neck joint, same with the 61 SG. I've seen some gnarly cracks around the pocket, as well as some spectacular breaks. I wonder how much wood is missing under that pickguard in case one wants to get as close to the dog ear look as possible.

are the 61r and 61t pickups new to Gibson? given the description, I would like to know more. The unmatched coils gimmick can be hit or miss, so I wonder how much brighter and noisier they are than the standard issue burstbuckers.

the es-235 looks like a really fun semi-hollow. the burstbuckers in it may work really well with the maple/poplar combo.

It's not the worst I've seen. Gretsch put out that acoustic with a filtertron and a Bigsby a couple years ago.

I really liked the fiesta red firebird.

And what in the actual heck is that pickguard shape on the DC? :fp:

The exact same thing happened to me...I got an instant attraction towards that blue sparkle and I went on a wild goose chase...found no evidence of it actually existing!! :fp:

I'm guessing that if it actually exists it'll be some kinda super-duper-limited-edition custom shop jobby. It'll also almost certainly be an artist signature model, probably some dipshit like Joe Bonamassa because Gibson will find a way to completely ruin it somehow.
