I really like the idea of an "Hermes" guitar. Or BAPE or Supreme or whatever company that doesn't make guitars. Frigidaire. Garanimals. Levi's. Astroglide. Total piss-takes. Wrigley's PK. Mr. Blobby. Charmin.

I wish I were able to leave a headstock unadorned, but I just can't. I think if I were going to do a fender logo on a jazzmaster (I have done that) again, I'd probably go to the trouble of ordering a decal for a Bass V or something like that. Mismatch that shit and make it obvious. Have fun with it.

You might be able to find some like that in South Korea.

I was reading an old classic car mag earlier looking up prices in 2013 and I saw this. Sorry it's bad quality the OG image was only an inch but it's a photo taken in Egypt of a (desirable) Fiat 124 Sport Coupe S2 by Pininfarina with a backstreet BMW makeover...or combover. Whether you think this is lamb dressed as mutton (my opinion) or mutton dressed as lamb is between you and your priest.

There really was a Chanel guitar, IIRC it was basically a badged up Gibson Chet Atkins nylonstring.

What bothers you about an unadorned headstock?

Here's the irony of the squier to fender logo replacement:
The gearhead crowd can already tell if a a decal is fake based on a couple factors such as truss access, binding, corresponding guitar body, etc. This is the audience that people who change the decal are usually trying to appease.

The remaining group/music audience do not care enough one way or another. Guitar could say fender or squier and no one gives it a second thought.

Me too. There are dozens of us.

Tangential thought: Nevernude would make for a good model name on a Fender decal.

Bought a used squire vi with a fender decal. Got a good deal because it had a staytrem bridge already on it. The headstock maches and I'm a fan of the look. Most people in my circle have no idea what a bass VI is, let alone if it's a fender or Squier. To be honest, it's not something I really think about or feel guilty about. I use it to play music and that's it.

The "fake decal" debate is still alive, but it's holding less and less significance as fender MIC is practically the same quality as squire. It's to the point where the logo holds no merit as the squires are just as good.

Actually... Now that i remember..

I once put a Rickenbacker logo on a 80's Korean copy. A guy came to my place to buy an amp, and he said to me "Thats a nice Ric"

I was like" yeah" 8)

So im also guilty of having passed a copy as a real thing, but not in order to sell it. That was a long time ago.

I ended up selling it on ebay for like $300. Listed as a copy of a John Lennon guitar with a Ric nameplate. :-[ :squint:

I did a Jazz Bass as a prop for a photo shoot, and when I had the neck re-done on my CV Duo-Sonic, it was easier to get a Fender decal, so I said, "what the hell, it's funny."

I have been known to wear wigs, too.

True wig story- when I was in my 20's and living in San Francisco, I worked part-time as a cigarette girl in nightclubs. I had long red hair, amazing legs and a great figure. But guess what? The nights I wore a platinum blond wig, I made twice as much money as I did as a redhead. :fp:

It wouldn't bother me if the guitar played well, but I wouldn't change the decal to a Fender for a more practical purpose: sanding off (possibly through the finish as well) just to glue a new decal on, and then re-clearcoat the face of the headstock, is just too much work. As I usually build my own stuff with Warmoth or other necks, I prefer a name or something funny. I couldn't care less about brand names, because as a lefty, most brands don't care about me.
