Satin Finish Rickenbacker?

Post by stevejamsecono » Wed Jun 13, 2018 4:03 pm

So I'd seen the walnut finish Ric 330s with the unfinished Maple Necks and was pretty intruiged, but still wasn't totally behind the color choice. Then this beauty came out... http://www.andybabiuksfabgear.com/ricke ... tte-black/

Now if my eyes are telling me correctly, that looks like a ric without the lacquer finish on the neck, and if THAT's the case, then we might suddenly have a Ric I can work with.

So I dunno, anyone seen these and tried 'em out yet? Alternately, are you a Ric purist and think this is the devil? Speak!

I'm not a Ric purist but I have a Ric and I think that's fucking great looking. I don't mind the gloss on the 330 that I have, though.

Oh! That's right up my alley :?

The best thing about matte guitars; is the way that over time, they polish up from playing. Almost like reverse-aging?
Anyway - love it on the 330! I hadn't seen it on those - but they did release some 4003s (I believe) that were matte and totally blacked-out.
I think it was on their Instagram feed...?

I only buy/own satin-finished guitars, so I am probably biased when I say this looks amazing. The black might make it a fingerprint magnet though? In any case, I'd encourage you to go for it!

My thoughts exactly! Hahaha

Great looking guitar.

But I'm confused with the OP - the neck on that guitar is finished.

I had a gloss JetGlo 360 that I bought new about 8 or 9 years ago. Every single place where a finger touched it resulted in a mark that wouldn't ever clean up. I've never seen anything quite like it, at least on a modern finish. It sure did play nicely though. I've had about 4 Ricks and I've loved them all but I just couldn't make them work for me. I've accepted the fact that I am a dyed in the wool Jaguar player.

Honestly, I don't understand why Rickenbackers exist when there are Jaguars.

Couldn't resist, ordered one of the matte black ones that was on sale on Reverb for the same price as a good used 330. I've been setting aside money for a Les Paul of some kind but I haven't found anything I liked so... right turn.

I dunno man, are you sure? Doesn't look like it to me. I can't really find literature either way, but it seems way less shiny than the necks on the regular 330s.
