Green Esquire

Post by Con-Tiki! » Fri May 11, 2018 7:13 am

there's been much Sherwood Green on the forum of late. My enthusiasm has a lot to do with the Marr jaguar.

Anyway, I had some parts leftover, including an ash body that I had finished in tru-oil, some hardware, and a Squier Bullet neck with a bunch of wear.
I've had this neck listed on Reverb for a couple weeks, 149 shipped, and only got a bunch of flak for the over-described fret wear. One guy offered me $55 for it wednesday.

I decided ''screw it, i'll use it."
The tru-oil finish was almost the same color as the maple neck, which i felt was a little boring. ReRanch is on sabbatical again, and Graceys has gotten a couple 'meh' reviews.
I also realized that i 've seen a dozen different Sherwood Greens, and probably wouldn't recognize an inaccurate version.
So, this is Duplicolor Amazon Green, from the auto parts store. I like it, but would be interested if anyone wants to weigh in on it's resemblance to Sherwood. I 've looked at so many photos, I can't tell anymore.

I think of Sherwood Green has having a metallic sheen to it, but if you just told me "here is my new Sherwood Green Esquire" I'm not sure I would've thought twice about it. Looks great to me in any case. Dig the knobs.

thanks.
the paint is metallic, but it's so fine, it really only shows if the light's perfect.

i love these knobs, i've moved them from guitar to guitar.
i think they were originally on some sort of Gibson amp.

I think Duplicolor sells cans of Sherwood Green too. But that is close enough for me without having a reference for comparison

thanks.
i'm pretty happy with it.
the first coat of green hit, and it was the first time i noticed how little tru-oil does to fill the grain.
I almost quit at that point, but didn't have the energy to start over. Now that it's together, i like the look.

Great shade of green & it looks fantastic with the open grain.

+1 on the open grain comments.

Looks rustic and classy all at once. Lovely shade of green.

Really like this thing. It's making me want an Esquire. But I gotta say it's also making me want to see pictures of the whole guitar.
