Danelectro Longhorn
I love danelectros. Have owned a few over the years, but i haven't had one for a while. My favorite toronto shop had this longhorn at a nice price and i couldn't pass it up.
Early 2000s. made in korea. Plays amazing. Sounds even better. The clean tones from these pickups are just great. Also i like the strat type 5 way switch and the tone options with 3 pickups. It plays a bit awkward sitting down, but it's super comfy standing up with a strap.
I'm sure the longhorn look isn't for everybody, but i love it. Besides Link Wray is just about my favorite guitar player.

So sick! I love long horns. I would be stoked one of these in the classic antigua, but as a 12 string!

Re: Danelectro Longhorn
Within the weird, alternate universe of Danelectro, Longhorns are a tiny world of their own. The Guitarlin (i.e., Link's version) must be one of the most novel guitar concepts ever, with its 31-fret range, lipstick pickups, and a body so cut-down that there's almost nothing left at all. Then there was the awesome-sounding baritone version, the three-pickup guitar, and a bass (probably the most ubiquitous of all Longhorn variants). They've never attracted a huge following, but I think the Korean-made circa 2000 Danelectros are quite underrated guitars.
I have the exact same model as you, so I won't bother posting a pic of it, but I agree with you about the clean tones of the lipsticks and the variety of tonal options. Mine would get more playing time, but the body shape and extreme compactness of the guitar make it, as you said, awkward to play. On the other hand, it weighs practically nothing, and the gonzo double cutaways make for great upper fret access. And, of course, the biggest selling point is the Link Wray seal of approval; a Link CD with a picture of a Longhorn is what made me want to play guitar in the first place. Congrats on your latest example of Nathan Daniel mad geniusness!

Re: Danelectro Longhorn
so i did something (which i think is) sorta cool to this guitar. I added the typical danelectro binding tape. This was the only Dano guitar that i have owned that didn't have binding tape and it felt like it was missing a requirement.
here it is now.

Craziness. I didn't notice it was missing, all Danos should have tape!
Very cool guitar. I have a bass from that first run, love it.

I've been to one World's Fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, and that's the stupidest thing i ever heard come out a pair of headphones.

Didn't know there were longhorn guitars, only seen basses.
This is pretty sick, man. Absolutely bad ass, the color is amazing. Congrats!

Re: Danelectro Longhorn
I'm just about to pull the trigger on a longhorn guitar. Any immediate improvements that can be done? How is the bridge?

That's cool, and definitely better with the tape!!
What's up with the guitarlin? Funky scale or tiny frets? The neck doesn't look crazy long...

It's a short scale, I'm not sure how they managed it but I don't think the neck is much longer than a regular Danelectro guitar neck. It's not really obvious in the photos but the highest frets are so close together that they're basically unuseable. I have this one from 1958 but the finish is fucked.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 3:33 amWhat's up with the guitarlin? Funky scale or tiny frets? The neck doesn't look crazy long...

interesting. is the "lin" part of the name supposed to be for mandolin?

Re: Danelectro Longhorn
Yeah, the extra frets were supposed to let you reach into mandolin territory.

Re: Danelectro Longhorn
Got mine the other day. Set up for slide and I think I will keep it like that for a while. Keep it at the office so will try to learn slide during lunch hour
