Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Whatever it is, I like it.
It reminds me of the Waterloo WL-12 Annie Clark is playing in this Tiny Desk Concert.

I'll wager that it's actually Martin's take on Waterloo's take on Depression era instruments.
I had played a bunch of guitars wanting a new acoustic, and I played one of these 00-17s models and thought it just sounded fantastic. As you know I was debating getting a smaller acoustic when I traded for your Dove, and quickly I realized that the Dove wasn't going anywhere soon, but it's a big guitar and I did want a parlor sized something or other.
So, it's on its way.

Ah, I don't consider 00's to be parlours, but I get why some people label them as such.
The 00-17 did actually exist as a model during the depression, so I wouldn't call it Martin's take on anything - it's Martin's take on Martin's design! Or a reissue, or a continuation of offering the same model, depending on how you look at it.Larry Mal wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2018 9:30 amIt is reminiscent!

But I'm also confused. The image you linked doesn't look like a 00-17.
The 00 shape is wider and the 17's were all mahogany in a natural finish:

Isn't it an 18, not a 17?

Martin calls it a 17, that's all I know about it.

Beats me! I'm no historian when it comes to Martin, and that guitar you are linking to seems to be what Martin is referring to as a "000" in this 17-series:mbene085 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2018 10:01 am

And I can't vouch for the accuracy of that, either. What I've read about these seems to be telling me that Martin didn't make something quite like these in the Depression and they are kind of trying to imitate what their competitors have been putting out.
But, I just tried the guitar and I liked it a lot, I thought it sounded great, so I bought one. This is my first non-dreadnought six string guitar so I'm not very knowledgeable about the naming conventions of these.

For the record, I'm glad it hasn't got a white pickguard. It looks prettier without.

Yeah, the 00 shape has flattened shoulders and was 14-feet.
The 000 is a 12-fret design with rounder shoulders:
And the OM was the 000 shape cut down to a 14-fret joint.
So an OM is just a slightly overgrown 00...
Maybe Martin is pulling a Fender, like how they're calling the hardtail duo-sonics with strat bridges "Mustangs".
Here's a '42 0-17. Your "00-17" appears to be a 12-fret version of the 0-17.
In any case, I hope you enjoy your mislabeled Martin

Right? Don't ask me about Martin's naming conventions. I hate how Martin and some other guitar makers name their guitars. I can remember a "Stratocaster" and a "Firebird".
What the fuck is a "GPCX2AE"?

Hah. Autocorrect changed "fret" to "feet" every single time I typed it. Missed one.
I also miss the days where my keyboard didn't actively change words that I typed.

I'm pretty sure that's an order code for a '93 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Grand Performance Cutaway model X2, Acoustic-Electric, as far as I know.
But yeah, the 000/OM size/# of frets has been a source of naming confusion for many years.
