Ive fallen in love with a guitar that needs a neck reset..

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

It sounds sooo good though.

It looks pretty beat up, i know. The back looks so cool in person. People on acid would enjoy staring at it for daze...

Do a neck reset yourself if it's gonna be a serious amount of dollar?

It might seem daunting but it's not rocket science...drill a hole, feed in some steam, wriggle the neck off, clean off the old glue, shim or sand the neck angle in the heel into a better position, glue back together.

How badly does it need a neck reset?

My '77 Guild D50 will need one eventually. The actions pretty high past the 7th fret but I know it'll play even better than it does now, if I fork out the cash. I'm willing to sit on it for the time being & just enjoy playing it as best I can.
Do you really need to get the neck done soon. Maybe just keep playing it as-is, if possible, and see how you feel in a few months.

Does it have a neck plate serial number? That back looks incredible!
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Mgeek, you might be onto something there... :jacked:

How bad does it need it? Plays okay in the cowboy chord section..

I guess, i wouldn't need to right away.

No neck plate here Porky. There is a tiny piece of the label left inside the sound hole. Big enough to fit the words "Eko" in about a size 4 font.

I think im just going to do it myself. Not really worth it to pay someone to do it.
It will only cost me $60 for the learning experience and i get some cool tuners as a bonus.

You sure they're van Ghents? They look like ones I've seen on other Ekos, which I always assumed they made themselves. Then again the nut looks like it's from a Hofner, so who knows what changes it's been through.

As for a $450 neck reset for an Eko, I'd say part it out if you wish and invest in a $500+ guitar instead.

That's a tough call.

I paid about 450 euro for my Levin parlour guitar. I paid the same again to have the neck reset along with a few other minor things that needed doing.

So I end up with a 900 euro guitar that is probably worth 600 euro if I tried to sell it. But it's a beautiful sounding thing and I know I'll play it for years now that it's playable again. I know that to buy a new guitar that sounds anything close to this good I'd be looking at something like a Waterloo/Collings and that would be the guts of two grand. By that logic sinking money into the Levin made some sense.

It all depends on how much you love it. It'll cost you money ... but the guitar will be good for a long time. Old acoustics always need neck resets ... and will need a couple over their life cycle as the tops lift.

Yes, you are right. I wrongly assumed they were the same. Ha, still these are nice tuners but probably not worth as much as the VG's. So that just means im out $50.

I thought about that too Despot, sinking a crap load of money and ending up with a guitar worth $200 bucks max. I think DIY is the way to go for this one. There are already 4 extra holes on top anyhow..

The bridge is starting to lift too, so it will need that addressed as well.

The back is lifting quite a bit, i can fit a pick medium thickness guitar pick quite easy in there.

Dang it, i need to stop buying kijiji projects. :fp:

Speaking of which, if you ever happen to come across my old Stratotele, please let me know! I miss that thing more than I care to admit. :fp:
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

He built one, but mine was different. I found the build link I had a few years ago, but Photobucket ate all my photos, so it isn't very exciting. :-/

Scouring the web, I found these:
