How much is my dumb guitar worth?

Soon enough I'll be getting rid of my '72 Telecaster Custom Reissue. This one is, according to the tag and serial, a Fender Special Run American Vintage model. I acquired it in a trade a couple of years ago and so am not quite sure of the dollar value. It has all case candy and tags and still smells like cotton candy. There are two points at the neck/headstock where the guitar hanger ate away at the finish. :( I took it in to have the damage assessed and I was assured that the damage was so minimal that it wasn't worth trying to repair.

I am not sure what year it was made. How would I find this out? I'll take better photos when I actually try to sell it. ;D

Start cruising reverb and ebay.
Best source for current market value.
Nice guitar, not dumb.

Thanks! I was trying to be cute. Prices are all over the place, from what I can tell. And I'm not sure how much I should discount for the finish problems at the headstock.

you probably know this...but when you check prices, look under "sold" listings. people can ask for what ever they want...sold listings tell you what they actually got.

:fp: ...all the tags are there and all, would it KILL them to write a date anywhere, there in the factory?!

But cool guitar fer sure!

Take the neck off for the date. Cool guitar, never see one like it that was a American made.

Looks like the ones that have sold, have been in the $1500 neighborhood.
I guess that's right, I don't pay much attention to new us fenders.
Btw, I became halfway obsessed with your guitar, and bought a cheap mim '72 tele custom on reverb.
Like, minutes ago. :fp:

I'm sure I can scrape another $375 together, if you want to get your guitar boxed up.
I'm in Pennsylvania, i'll wait for you to send the tracking info. .

The general rule that I apply is that the Euro price is the same as the dollar price when comparing prices between the EU and US (i.e. 1400 euro priced guitar would be 1400 USD in US).

On that basis I'd say 1400/1500 dollars is about right. I've seen a similar model sell here in Ireland for 1450 euro - and my own old Telebration tele (which was a custom model with Jazz bass styling) sold for 1250. I think that's about right too - it was a bit odd with body contours and a block maple neck ... so unusual (and therefore less easy to sell here). That price range sounds about right.

Cool Tele though - I remember seeing these up on Thomann.de for about 1800 euro when they were first available. At the time I was considering buying one, but then I came across a vintage Tele Custom at the right price and went for that instead.

Thanks, y'all! It really is a nice guitar - the only reason I'm selling is because I have a custom replacement on the way. :w00t:
