I play a Firebird now, Firebirds are cool

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

I have deep GAS for a Firebird I but the Bonamassa epis are overpriced and MIJ copies are few and far between. I might stick a 'bird pup in the bridge of my SG special copy w/ warapround to cop the feel. That SG is absurdly light so I want to get it sounding good so I can gig it when I get tired :D it's my understanding that firebirds, in general, are NOT light guitars so I'm only hoping to recreate the sound a little bit, not the entire firebird experience.

I've thought about modding my Standard with different pickups for a while, mainly because it's my favorite playing guitar. Plugged in though, doesn't really scratch any itches. Those 490 / 498 setups leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. Ideally, a Ric Hi-Gain in the bridge and then something in the neck, one of the first thoughts is the Firebird just because the mini-chrome humbucker seems appealing. Then a vibrola... Haha.

There was an awful thread (one of the worst in my time on OSG) a while back that polarized a lot of people because of the website design - looking at you Larry ;D - Lincoln guitars. They do a really cool looking NR Firebird with an awesome curve, plus option out a great arm cut / carve and will fit it with an offset trem. Cheaper by a significant margin than the desirable Gibsons and customizable to boot.

One of my favorite examples (though the control layout leaves something to be desired):

Nope. Firebirds are very, very light guitars.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

My Firebird isn't heavy.
If you go for any vintage styled Firebird pickup it will be a vast improvement over the stock pickups.
Mini humbuckers and Firebird pickups aren't the same. My firebird has an almost single coil feel to it.

Huh. I wonder who told me they were heavy? I've not played them very much and they're really friggin long... maybe I just decided that they *should* be heavy for some reason.

I think most firebird weigh about 8lbs, SG is about 6.5lbs, alder strat usually weigh 7.5-8lbs ash strats are about 8.5lbs.
I think firebird feel heavy on account of the way they're "neck-heavy". You can alleviate this by moving strap buttons but that devalues the guitar.
What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

Seems to be a big of range to them, but none of them really heavy:

Don't be too worried about the neck dive, either, the Steinberger tuners helped out a lot with that and I never really notice it. Not sure about the mini-Grovers that they put on there now but I'd never buy one of those anyway, I think the tuners behind the headstock is a where it's at with Firebirds.

Although it's not that big of a deal.
