I would actually learn that stuff if I thought I was capable of it. I think it would be fun to do. I mean, I'd never like, perform it or anything, but it would be kind of fun.

I've been loosely considering getting some kind of shred guitar for a while now.

I think they are doing it wrong. This is what my shred guitar looks like.

I kind of want one of these- not enough to actually buy one, though:

As it should, Maggie. It's a great song to play! :)
Also, I think I was the only person who played a SONG. When I walked in it was all wheedley-wheedley-wheedley-wheedley-weeeeee.

They might not have known their guitars could do that.

The one I lusted after was this DC127 in Blueburst, and I was not at all disappointed with the looks nor the build quality:

It was just the sound of it. I wasn't a real good guitar player, and I couldn't make it do anything cool. I couldn't make it sound like anything, any of the sounds in my head or on records I'd heard didn't sound like this Carvin. Probably a skilled guitarist could have made it do all that, but I wasn't that guy.

I kind of wish I had it still. Man, looking at that catalog is funny. That six hundred dollars took me like forever to put together. I was working at my first real job, working 60-70 hours a week, and living with my parents, and it still took me forever to put that money together it seemed like.

I pawed over that catalog like it was porn or something- there was no internet back then, you know? I still do that, but not with Carvin. I never looked back on them after I sold the guitar to whomever and sold a Carvin 2X12 amp that I had of theirs too. I couldn't get any of it to do anything cool.

My Jazzmaster, though, did cool shit right off the bat. I never felt more at home on a guitar as I did that Jazzmaster- which I still have- after like four minutes on the showroom floor I was putting the Jazzmaster on layaway. And I was not disappointed, I don't need to tell you, but Jazzmasters have all kinds of sounds in them, just popping out.

All of a sudden I felt like I had an interesting sound at my disposal with the Jazzmaster, like I'd found my voice.

I'd still like my old Carvin, though. I wonder where it is. 23 year old Larry Mal really was excited about that guitar.
I had that same catalog

I didn't like the guitars but I wanted one of those tweed 50W 2X12 combos

The company is actually still around, just in a smaller capacity, as Carvin Amps & Audio. They're still making Steve Vai's signature Legacy Drive pedal and just released the X1 preamp pedal based on the X100b.

The rest of the product line is smaller pro audio equipment (IEM systems, DI boxes, small 5'' PA speakers).
I've been working with them on product videos for the last few months. New designs are in the works but the timeline of the release is something I don't know.

They're not as big as they were, but they're not closed.

Lots of hate for Carvin in this thread, but their 50s and 60s guitars are great, totally sit with Mosrite, Bigsby etc http://www.carvinmuseum.com/decade/59-guitars.html

Their old guitars were awesome and their amps were always pretty good.

I'd still like to get one of those wood-cabinet 112 X amps from the early 80s. Maybe sit it next to a potted fern, on a nice rust colored area rug with a brass lamp. Pastiche, but awesome.
This is an excellent rectangle
