NGD x2!
Hey folks,
Been loving the Facebook marketplace. Scored this Hello Kitty Strat in mint condition for £150
Still has the protective plastic on the RR cover and the original CE sticker. I bet it's been played once. The girl I bought it from got it 10 years ago when she was 10 and gave up guitar shortly afterwards. Came with a little practice amp too.
Also got this awesome '77 Ibanez SG. Looks to have a replacement bridge, tuners and knobs and the rear route cover is missing (I'll just cut another on the CNC).
Finish is a holoflake on black and is pretty beat up. Someone has tried to strip it in the past. I might try a refin or just leave it as is. It has a cool vibe. I dunno if they made these from the factory in holoflake or whether it's a refin already.
No major dents, frets are good - need a level but still lots of height in them. Pots and jack are perfect. It's obviously been played regularly, it's well set up.
Plays really well too, sounds superb. I'm guessing it's a BRW fretboard. Probably African mahogany (she's heavy). Bolt on neck. A couple of cracks in the neck binding, but the inlays are MOP and very precise.
I only paid £110 which I think is a great deal.

Re: NGD x2!
Cheers dude! Cool eh? I'm amazed how much it feels like an SG despite the bolt on neck. Really nice rounded LP style profile as well. I'll definitely keep my eye out for more in future!
And at this price I feel very fortunate indeed!

Hell yeah, dirty great HB in the bridge, hardtail, one knob, fantastic feeling neck (satin finish Charvel style contour) and tall frets. It's a shred machine!s_mcsleazy wrote:the sg is cool but i want to say those hello kitty strats are really good.

Perhaps, I just seem to find way more mislabeled items on Facebook than on eBay. I guess people just pop it on there cause it's free and price it at what they'd be happy getting for it, irrespective of the wider market.MechaBulletBill wrote:Looks like Fb gear groups down south are way better than round by me!
Guys who aren't "gear people" don't necessarily realise prices go up as well as down. I guess they think "I paid X for it new, I'll halve that now it's second hand".
The Ibanez was described as "Vintage guitar", with a low res picture of the body. Naturally I thought "£100, it's probably a "Vintage" brand SG copy". But I looked closer at the pic and saw the old Ibanez logo.
Lovely guy. He'd bought it off his Spanish friend 15 years ago, he probably only paid the same as I did. It's just a fantastic guitar for the money. It sounds incredible.
I'm really tempted to refin it cherry red and stick a locking wraparound with roller saddles and Maestro vibrola on there. I could set the neck while I'm at it.

If it's got maxon pickups, I bet it really wails.

Nice!
Funny, I recently saw a similar Hello Kitty Strat, but I can't remember where. I think it was in some gear demo, probably of a vintage amp. I remember because it seemed a bit out of place.

I've had low-level GAS for those Hello Kitty strats for years. I can't blame you for snagging that at that price! The SG is cool and all, but it wouldn't get much playtime from me with that strat around!
I'd probably stick an unusual pickup in there though, like a Filtertron, Goldfoil or Valco or something, just "because"!
