Stratocaster refinish project - what colour?
I've got a very nice MIM Strat - nothing special and bought in pieces a few years ago and sprayed black as I had some black paint handy...
Just like this one: (although mine has a Mint green pg and cream pickups)
It plays really well but the colour is just so dull...- I've played many Strats over the years and some are just "meh" - this one just seems to work but I think it's time for a change of colour...
Anyway - not exactly going out of the box, the current likely colour is white:
Or white with a white pg?
But I can't decide if this Sonic Blue (or is it Daphne blue) looks the bollocks or not?
And this: Ocean turquoise?
Any better suggestions/colours that you love?
Just looking for some discussion / inspiration really -- no issues with the painting skills necessary, just want a better looking Strat!
Either way it's coming apart tommorow!

I was gunna say white with white until i saw that daphne. Do a Lennon/Harrison strat, and go Daphne with white guard, all day.

You can't go wrong with either colour, but I'd go Sonic Blue. It always reminds me of that Ike Turner photograph, which is pretty rock'n'roll Can't link to it here because I only found it on pinterest and I don't have an account there.

The white/white looks great - esp with those yellowed coversthisisnickpaige wrote:I was gunna say white with white until i saw that daphne. Do a Lennon/Harrison strat, and go Daphne with white guard, all day.

Before I even got as far as what you were thinking of doing, I was going to suggest (olympic) white or sonic blue - both with mint guard.
Also in the W. Mids, by the way.

Not too far from Wolves here.somebodyelseuk wrote:Before I even got as far as what you were thinking of doing, I was going to suggest (olympic) white or sonic blue - both with mint guard.

Sonic blue is always spot on but a good white Strat is amazing.
There are some bad ones though - the trick will be to get the "right" white imho - not too "appliance" shite but without the yellowy tinge that looks shit with mint.

I'm going to go with white on white, because it reminds me of CAN's Michael Karoli's Strat.

Olympic white... well, any white is okay as long as it's poly. If you go nitro, it's going to yellow sooner or later. The Strats pictured are 'olympic', post 65ish, they're all poly., trouble is Fender have produced reissues where they tint the colour to try and make 'em look aged. Nitro clear lacquer will yellow as it sits in the can over time.
