WOW!!!
David, I've said it before, but I love your New Gear Posts. You've got impeccable taste and always buy nothing but the best. Congratulations, my friend.

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

If one is going to get a J-200, that is certainly the one to get! It looks gorgeous, congrats!
But I'm floored by the tuners!!! The "epsilon" has been turned into a capital "G"
Obviously that's "a thing that happened," but I've never personally seen it before. VERY cool!

GORGEOUS!
Fantastic score David!
I personally find the body shape uncomfortable, but damn if they aren't sexy.

Re: My first 1950s vintage guitar
FEDEX has just delivered the J200, late on a cold Monday afternoon.
The guitar was packaged very well and arrived safe and sound.
I opened it up and as you can see by the two shot below, it looks exactly like the photos on the guitar stores site - unlike some that seem to enhance their photos or light them in such a way as to obscure any blemishes or issues. (obviously the white lines on one of the photos are reflections from my house guttering).
I am now allowing the guitar is acclimatise to the house and will tune it up in a few hours.
No issues at all with regards to CITES.
Also for all you trainspotters out there (a group which I include myself in) some close ups of the Epiphone "before Gibson bought them" style tuners

relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

Re: My first 1950s vintage guitar
David - that is an outstanding guitar. Well done.
Of all Gibson's acoustics, while I may always find myself with a J45 or J50 or some sort (currently with a TV J45), old J200s from the '50s are without doubt the cream of the crop for me.
It's in good company!

I've always loved the detail with the binding around the neck point. Perfect!
Congratulations on the new addition & glad to hear the whole transaction/delivery went so smoothly.

You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Top shelf material there, should be displayed in a brown paper bag to preserve public decency.
You've bought some real gems over the past few years, I've never even seen a real one of these in the flesh.

Yeah this, those Epi 200s were brilliant - I got to pick mine out of 5 or 6 different ones and it was dynamite.zhivago wrote:Very cool, and extra points for the Epi tuners that Gibson "rebranded"
I have always wanted one of these old J200s...back in the mid 90s I had an Epiphone version and it was a pretty neat guitar...I can only imagine what an old one sounds like!!
This one looks absolutely terrific, bet it sounds absolutely incredible. Enjoy!

Re: My first 1950s vintage guitar
just had to have another look at this guitar.... truly beautiful!
How are these in terms of weight ? (Eg compared with a modern version 200) i imagine very light?
