NGD Framus + NGD Framus

Post by raphaël » Thu Jun 22, 2017 4:04 am

Hey everyone!!!

NGD x 2 !!!!

Again, two 60's Framus guitars...just three or four more and I'll be done with my obsession :D

First is a '63 Framus Strato Super 5/155ish.
Don't really know exactly.
I'm the second owner. The guy who sold me the guitar is the nephew of the original owner. His uncle passed away and so he was selling it.
It was quite in poor shape, nothing was working and she was dirty as hell!!!

I found dust, hairs, mold and even a dead spider inside!!!

Anyway,
I got a very great deal on that one...
I also get the original case (in restoration right now, because of the same dust, hairs, mold, insects...and smell :k )
The uncle bought it new in 63 when he was visiting England. He brought her back to Germany and it was his one and only guitar...

I just had to clean the guitar, to do a small setup and to solder two little wires...and the guitar was back in the game!!!

One switch is broken, but I can activate it with a pick:

The pickups are simply awesome. They sound full and powerfull and defined:

I have two more switches...they don't really work...I mean they actually start working, don't know why...I think they are phase inverters and/or bass/high cut...
And originals knobs too!!!
(forgot to say the guitar is all original)

The bridge is...a bridge.
The trem is smooth as butter. Trully great.

As usually with Framus, the tiny neck plate and laminated neck:

Binding!!!!

Angled headstock!!!

Crappy tuners!!!!

They stay in tune quite well, to be honest ;)

And some nice checking all over the finish:

I thought the guitar to be a bit odd looking...but I really like it now.
Image
Someone told me it was an ugly guitar (but with a very nice color combo)...I told him it was true but not true, she is very good looking on strap.
PROOF!!!

SOOoooooo

This is an awesome guitar.
The neck is perfection, very smooth and thin, the pickups are great and the guitar is very light and well balanced.

I'm so happy to have her.

NOW...

I bought a second guitar from Pat (Pacafeliz).
And again, Pat is a wonderful guy.

It's a may 69 Framus 5/112 aka Sorento.
Not all original.
The headstock had been reshaped, wich is a shame (but I have a special plan for it :shifty: )
The original tuners are gone too.
I'm not sure of the pickguard as well...

BUT!!!
She has great and fabulous and rare pickups.
She has one of the most fabulous neck.
She sounds exquisite unplugged too (to my tastes ;) )
She is a thing of beauty.

SHE IS THE ONE FOR ME!!!

One guitar to rule them all...

One guitar to ruin them all!!!!!!

(ok, not entirely true, she is on par with my Partsguar, but still, just a bit above)

I have nothing much and/or more to say, except those few lines.

PICS!!

"Someone" (the guy who sold it the guitar to me, and the same "someone" who told me that the Strato Super was ugly :D ) that he was selling her because she was too big on him, and that it was weird.
We have the same height, I'm actually 1cm smaller >:(

I told him he was right, SHE IS BIIIIIG!!!!
But I like it...plus she is super comfy and resonnant...vibrations in the belly :-*

PROOF!!!

Ok then,
She has it.
She has all of it.

So once again,
THANK YOU SO MUCH PAAAAAAT :-* :-* !!!

Thank you for the reading ;) !!!

That Framus Strato Super is a super looker! What a cool guitar. What are the pot controls; individual tone and a master volume?

Thank you Nicholas!!

She is great looking AND cool, indeed. Just a joy to play and hear...and to look at on the wall ;D !!

And you're right, the three knobs in the row are individual tone knobs, and the other one is the master volume.
Quite simple!!!

Simple yet so cool. It's nice to be able to set and forget to taste with different tones for different pickups.

Raph!
...once more, it makes me incredibly happy to see that you're so happy with my old fiddles.

But yes, the SOUND of that big box Framus was just glorious... i know those pickups alone sell for stupid money sometimes, and there's a good reason for it. I was SERIOUSLY considering keeping them and putting them in a Jazzmaster body or something... but then again, i think that's a bit of a sacrilege (sp?), but Lee Ranaldo might disagree.

Anyways, yeah, WAY too big for me, and no vibrato = it had to go.
BTW, i got this guitar from a cool lady in Duisburg, who told me she played in an all-female punk band in the 70s/80s, but then she got kids etc. I am still in sporadic contact with her, trying to get her into reuniting the band! I promised i'd even open the gig ... man i need to get my own band going, cuz i almost got her convinced!

So, keep on having fun, I'll let you know when i got more Framus/ses/ii to let go! :P

Rock on!

Pat.

PS: nice to see you over here again too, Nick. Guys we need to meet up some day!!!
i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

:-* Great score on both! Must be nice to be in Europe with its stash of vintage stuff to pick from, I could see myself going a bit nuts picking up some treasures if I was there. Love the pickguard material on the Strato Super!

it's impressive, yes. back in Mexico i was still able to stash up on old Fenders on the cheap. By the end it got more and more difficult.

Now since I'm in Europe, I've been on a binge again; Musima, Framus, Hofner, Klira, Egmond, etc... DAMN!
