This 1966 blackface Bassman. How I miss Its beefiness. I've been looking for this same sound in a smaller package ever since.
Also, a 1974 Super Reverb with CTS alnico speakers. It may have been the best amp I've heard, but was just too loud for home use. I wish I could find a photo.
Amp I don't miss: this Victoria Regal. I had such high hopes. On paper, it seemed like the perfect amp. But it just didn't sound very good to my ear, no matter which tubes or speakers I tried.
The only guitar I ever miss. Freakin' Danocaster with a bunch of vintage parts.

Re: Gone but not forgotten... Gear you miss.
Yeah.
It was a good one...
Big old baseball bat neck, a P90 that screamed at you before you even plugged the guitar in ... monster SG. There was a good reason for selling it at the time - I just can't remember what that was.
To be honest, being the serial gear flipper that I am there have been a shed load of good guitars that have gone over the last five years. I'm getting close to done (I've said I'm done many times before) ... the things that could tempt me are a late '60s bat wing guard SG, a non-reverse Firebird III or a vintage ES355. Actually ... that's the big one. If I found a '64 or '65 ES355 at the right price I'd have to jump at it. The war chest is quietly building for that one... I've no interest in a vintage ES335 at all anymore ... but a ES355. Different story.

Okay ... I'm typing this from memory, so I'll doubtlessly miss things or get the year of certain things wrong ... but here's the roll of the lost.
- 1976 Gibson ES355 TDSV
- 2011 Lowden F35
- 1957 Gibson J50
- 1953 Gibson J50
- 1948 Martin 0018
- 1961 Gibson ES330T (single pickup - mid mounted)
- 1972 Gibson ES345 TDSV (walnut wonder)
- 1966 Fender Jazzmaster (refin - sonic blue, from Andrewaward here on OSG)
- 1966 Fender Jazzmaster (refin - silverburst)
- 1962 Guild Starfire II
- 197x Guild Starfire IV
- 1965 Fender Jaguar LPB
- 1971 Fender Jaguar CAR
- 1974 Fender Telecaster Custom
- 1977 Fender Telecaster Custom
- 1975 Fender Stratocaster
- 1971 Gibson Les Paul Custom
- 197x Gibson Les Paul Deluxe
- 1986 Gibson Les Paul Custom
- 1967 Gretsch Tennessean
- 1976 Fender Jazzmaster (now owned by Ryan Adams)
- 196x Parts build Jazzmaster (the Inca-master)
- 1968 Gibson ES335
- 1964 Gibson SG Special
- 1964 Gibson SG Junior
- 196x Gibson SG Standard (or was it?)
- 2013 Gibson J35
- 20xx Gibson J150
- 201x Gibson Rusty Anderson ES335
- 201x Gibson Luther Dickenson ES335
- 2008 Gibson Firebird V
- 201x Fender Tele Custom (Telebration model)
- 2013 Bilt Relevator
I'm sure there are bits and pieces I've forgotten from the list above - but those are the ones that stand out. I've more or less had a small shop worth of gear pass through my hands over the years. I'd say I'm a little over breaking even all things considered - quite a lot of this serial flipping ended up with me being able to track down and get a few things that were on my desert island list (chiefly my Jazzmaster, ES345 and this year finally nabbing a '66 Telecaster). There's method in the madness (deeply hidden within a serious addiction problem).

Re: Gone but not forgotten... Gear you miss.
While I don't miss it as a whole, my old '59 ES125T had the most amazingly comfy neck (chunky late 50s profile) and an incredible sounding P90.
I had issues with the low E-string that, in retrospect, could've been fixed with a new nut. Also, it was dangerously clean & I worried about knocking it too much...
It had the coolest yet flimsiest case in the world, made of faux alligator skin wrapped around cardboard. The lining was a lovely deep burgundy colour.

Re: Gone but not forgotten... Gear you miss.
I love those old ES125s - I've often thought about picking one up as they're generally not too expensive in the grand scheme of things, but I think the prices have been going up lately so maybe they're no longer the bargain they once were.
'59 necks though ... man, those bigger '59 necks are glorious on any guitar! They got surprisingly slim towards the end of the year though - you could see that they were already heading towards that slim 1960 shape before they got there (at least based on a '59 ES345 and '59 J50 that I've played).

Re: Gone but not forgotten... Gear you miss.
My MIJ HH Jag was my first real Fender guitar. I really miss it. It's honestly the only piece of gear I have sold that I really miss. I basically learned to play guitar on it. It was nothing really special. The neck was thin and the Dragster HB were weird, but the guitar had a cool vibe. I tried more high output HB on the guitar, but I should have put P90 or Filtertron on it. I kept mine with the stop tail but I thought abour putting a Vibramate Bigbsy before selling it.MKR wrote:this thread makes me sad.
my contribution is a MIJ HH jag that i installed a traditional tremolo on.

If the person I sold it to is out there; I'd buy it back.
Right next to the LPB Jaguar with B&B I had in art school.

This one comes to mind right away.
'63 Brownface Princeton
I still have my first 6G2, a tuxedo. But this beat up brownie had that extra .05% of something special.
It lives in Germany now but I would still consider buying it back.

Re: Gone but not forgotten... Gear you miss.
Don't think I've got too many major regrets. I missed an Epiphone Dot Studio in Arctic White that I had for a while, that was a HELL of a guitar for 200 quid. I'm definitely got over it, though. I also sold a LM308 RAT when I was in college, probably to buy beer or pay for a train ticket or something stupid. Bought another one a couple of years back for £50 or something so that wrong was easily righted.
I remember reading online somewhere that someone traded a burgundy mist Jag for a Boss ME-5 sometime in the 80s. He definitely regrets that!
The only guitar I really miss, and I'm not even sure I have the right to say I miss it, but I tried a '67 Jazzmaster once at a guy's studio while he had it up on eBay. He wouldn't take an offer as he wanted to let the auction run and I later just missed out on the auction. Me and that thing had just 10 minutes together with an AC30 but it was one of the greatest 10 minutes of playing I've ever done. Even one of his neighbours stuck his head round the door to see what was going on as he didn't normally hear playing like that (sorry, a bit big-headed but I really was flying that day!). For the sake of another £50 or so... Man, what could have been...
