Wanting to buy an LP style guitar

Post by Jan Deal » Mon Apr 24, 2017 3:02 am

Hey guys,

I've had a hankering for a Les Paul type guitar, but I'd really be looking for something affordable. Skinny neck, passive electrics and a satin finish, what do you suggest?

A Les Paul Studio with a faded finish and the 60's slim-taper neck seems a no-brainer here.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I had an LTD EC-256 that was a really nice guitar. Some of them have that factory relic thing that I kind of like, plus it has coil tapping.

Yup, cheaper end of the Gibson range is where I'd be thinking if the budget stretches.

I have a yamaha SL380 from the early 80s. It's not the slimmest neck (it's also a bolt-on) or the nicest finish but it sounds fuckin incredible. I don't even know if it's got stock pickups but I really love the sound.

Depends on what you mean by affordable, but you're UK based so have you looked at Gordon Smith? Affordable compared to Gibsons and very, very good. Great value too.

+1 on the Yamahas. I have an SL650 and Jonesie has an SL400, and they are both wonderful guitars and were not cheap at all. Get a vintage Paul for half to a third the cost of a "real" one!

'60s Tribute has a thin neck, humbuckers or p90s, and is light weight. I had one and sold it just because I wasn't playing it. It was a stellar guitar.
