Re: ...who's rocking a Flying V?
I'd love a Flying V. I think they are cool.
But I'm a middle aged guy and play seated like virtually always, and have no desire to join a band or rather the idea of being in a band is so unrealistically impossible that I just...
Don't have a Flying V. And before you tell me that you can play a Flying V in a seated position, sure. I guess. But how lame is that? So I'm going to be the middle aged guy who plays his Flying V sitting down all the time?
"I still rock!"
Can't nobody respect that.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I play my Flying V sitting down all the time, but I've accepted and embraced my lameness. I did use it while I was in my college band though so it saw some live use (like that matters).
Playing it sitting down actually puts the neck at a very similar angle to playing classical with the footrest. Mine is a copy of this but the headstock is white, the truss rod cover is blank, the neck pickup has a chrome cover, the switch tip is black, silver top-hat reflector knobs and the neck is bolted on.

You guys, Sean's the one who's supposed to stab the balls.
I'd rather break the guy's legs, frankly.

Re: ...who's rocking a Flying V?
When I just started playing guitar at the tail end of the 80s my parents replied to an advert from the paper about an electric guitar for me and didn't get it because "it was weird and shaped like a Y" so presumably i missed out on years of hair metal because I didn't get a flying V when I was 7. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.
I love the idea of them (and explorers) but can't picture myself playing them comfortably so didn't get one. I did get a cheap-o epiphone explorer which i loved but played it about 10 times because it wasn't comfortable...

I currently rawk two Vees - a custom Gibson '68 Reissue and a Hamer Vector. They're both stellar live guitars! I've got a Shishkov Korina Vee in the works (very early works!) right now...
Here's a pic of the Gibson and me with no head from the DC Rock and Roll Marathon:
I've got some live shots with the Vector, but will have to dig for those...

It's world class. I really like my Gibson V, but the Hamer runs circles around it in every way.MechaBulletBill wrote:How does the hamer compare?

This is a very cool epi V for what seems a good price (no affiliation, obviously)

None yet over here, but have admittedly coveted Tim Wheeler's Korina-n-blackguard V for quite a while now...
And the (L'arc-en=ciel) Ken Signature Burny is a beautifully guady thing as well that deserves some mildly underwound PAFs...

Re: ...who's rocking a Flying V?
I've actually got a black one lying around made by Stagg. I used to use it a lot more but now I'm thinking of turning it into a jangle machine and using it in my new band, I think I just like the image of a big guy with a beard walking on stage with a v only to play jangly quaint indie.
Any pickup suggestions?

Re: ...who's rocking a Flying V?
I've had a thing for them ever since I discovered Jay Reatard; probably would've dismissed them as another dorky metal machine if not for him.
Still, I can't see myself owning one. Like Larry, I prefer something I can play sitting down.
