2016 Fender Duo-Sonic vs 2008 Classic Vibe Duo-Sonic
Anyone played both? Any major differences?

I haven't played the new one, but I own the CV Duo. Outside of wanting to replace the gold pickguard with something better, I love how the guitar feels. It being pretty cheap to pickup doesn't hurt either

2 different guitars. I had a 2000s one briefly and hated it. It was REALLY small. I want to say it was a 22" scale, had these strat pickups and the bridge had saddles like the older ones. I've seen and played the new ones and like them A LOT better. The necks are more Mustang besides being all maple. The Strat bridge is meh but that's an easy fix. The new ones are a lot more playable. The 2000s ones good too. For a 13 year old. And Im not saying that to knock them. They're student guitars.

Agreed. I love mine, too. Curious about the Fender, though.SSquirrel wrote:I haven't played the new one, but I own the CV Duo. Outside of wanting to replace the gold pickguard with something better, I love how the guitar feels. It being pretty cheap to pickup doesn't hurt either

Hang on, there are three versions of Duo-Sonic reissues, as far as I know:Subgenius wrote:2 different guitars. I had a 2000s one briefly and hated it. It was REALLY small. 1) 1990s MIM Fender: 22.5" scale
2) late '90s MIC Squier: same as the MIM ones, more or less.
3) 2008-2011 MIC Squier Classic Vibe: much more of a true '50s reissue, apart from the bridge pickup being placed farther from the bridge than the originals. 3-saddle bridge (kind of like a Tele), 24" scale and Desert Tan w/ Gold PG.
4) 2016: MIM Fender: comes in various colors and in SS and HS configs.
We're talking specifically about #3 and #4. Sounds like the one you played and hated was a #1 or #2.
They might have been intended as student guitars, but some pros did play them, and Warren Ellis of The Bad Seeds plays the 2008 version that I have. It's as nice as the rest of the Classic Vibe line, which is very nice, albeit not top of the line.

Correct me... The CV uses a non-standard conversion 24" neck (just as the 22.5" on the 90s models was non-standard?) And so won't switch onto a Jaguar etc. Or am I wrong?
The new ones feel amazing; the Squier 22.5"s feel like toys.

also think the cv uses a conversion neck. But feels like a normal shortscale... I really like the cv duo but never had a new offset-duo in my hands.

Seems like people are asking crazy prices for the Squiers in the usual places... Must be some rub-off from the new series.
