The truc arc completely changed the sound, way more sustain and resonance than before. I looked at compton too, but his site has been down for months and I like keeping the aesthetic of the bar bridge. Beautiful guitars, by the way

Gretsch has the most ridiculous numbering system for their guitars, one of the reasons I found it hard to get into them in the first place.

Aye, Tru-Arcs are really solid pieces that do indeed retain the vintage aesthetic nicely.

It does get kinda comical after a while with some of the FSR models of the past decade or so....Really can't beat the silly name of my 2102 G6196TSP-2G!

Indeed it is, with all the anomalies :) That is to say, sound post under the bridge(instead of trestle bracing), spruce top, and just like its shared-frame single-cut Gretsch Falcon cousins, a spanky 25.5" scale. It's also very difficult to photograph true-to-hue, as the grayish-metallic purple finish looks blue half of the time, but can also appear almost lavender under very bright stage lighting.

And my eyes are still telling me that the top is Sonic Blue.

Oooo.... snap! The G5124. I was offered one of those at a price I couldn't refuse. Lovely thing with those DeArmond pickups.

I've also got this G5235T (I think it is).

Here's a photo of my G6128T-DSV Duo Jet a few years ago - the fixed arm had just broken off ( :wtf: ) and I hadn't yet replaced the Synchromatic with a stainless Compton. The nut and Bigsby needed a little attention so it'd stay in tune, but now it's absolutely majestic. I played it through a friend's vintage AC30 and it was heavenly. It looks, sounds, and plays wonderfully - I can't see myself getting rid of it any time soon.

Such a gorgeous thing indeed!

The whole 51XX and 31XX series were really fantastic pieces for the money and proper sleepers (albeit kinda like a chunk of Gretsch history ran thru while drunk), and it's too bad there aren't that many still floating around in the cooler colors as I had hoped when they first came out.

Wayne (at Compton) has recently gone through eye surgery and has been out of commission for a bit. He says that he hoped to have everything up and running at the end of October, so I figure he's taking a bit more time to heal up. I used to spend a lot of time over at Gretsch-Talk, those guys are super helpful and extremely nice.

I had a stainless steel, chambered Compton on my old 5120, and I loved it. It really made it so much better of a guitar. I'd recommend his work any day.

Aw man, I love these Country Club models. So pretty. I played one in New York a couple years back at Sam Ash, through a Super Reverb Reissue (same amp I have), it was strung up with flatwounds and was one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played. They're super hard to find now, and terribly expensive. I'll own one eventually. I've been wanting a hollowbody with Dynasonics ever since.

This is another one of those amazing few Gretsch guitars that really stands out. Like I said earlier in the thread, I'd love to have one of these. Is that a real vibroverb? I bet it sounds amazing paired with that DSV.

Feeling a bit autumnal in front of the studio today, with ginko, maple, and chestnut leaves everywhere.

Indeed, in construction and sheer size it's a total Jazz guitar (especially with heavy flats) with a resonant top that seems to have harmonics of its own. I totally lucked out and got it used for only about 40% of what they were going for new.

It's a 90's 2x10 reissue, but it sounds pretty great with the Gretsch nonetheless. It's got a lush, mellow quality that pairs really nicely with the Dynasonics. :)
