Re: NG(retsch)D + show me your gretsches
An early 60s 6119 that I restored this year. Was routed for humbuckers, thankfully a clean job, so replaced with some vintage Hi-Lo Trons.
Sounds amazing through my handwired PR clone. I played a new electromatic for about 30 mins in a shop yesterday and then came home and played this... The new guitar was well made and sounded ok but just felt flat and clunky compared to the vintage.

Re: NG(retsch)D + show me your gretsches
lovely gretsch content, folks i've always found gretsch's fascinating!
the gretsch thing is all very new to me but I do have one, its a lower model (i don't know the "code" off by heart) but it plays and sounds sweet, need to pick it up more really! unfortunately best pic i have is from just before i stripped it for a clean / setup after purchase:
Infact this thread has egged me on to pick this one up if i get some practice time this weekend

Well played!
By no means is your G5229 (also called the Special Jet) a lightweight or lower model in my book, it's a proper bombastic twanger with those Dearmond! Pro-line Gretsches have Dynasonics, but you've got extra zing built into yours

yeah i really like the sound from the de-armond pickups, i'm not good at describing but 60's songs sound great- i think you hit it on the head with "twang"
i'm glad you like it hopefully i'll get some time with it soon!

Re: NG(retsch)D + show me your gretsches
I've owned 4 pro gretsches that have all been fantastic instruments, never really played a korean made one until yesterday. I went into a guitar center to get some strings and there was a g3900 (around 1999?) historic series guitar on the used rack for $400, I figured I'd just give it a shot. I'm beyond amazed, it was just as good as the pro lines I've had.
Quickly becoming one of my favorite guitars ever, the fact that it's acoustically LOUD as hell is another huge plus. Slightly darker, but at least the same volume as an old small bodied Taylor I used to have. I then tried a newer double cut away electromatic with 3 hilotrons and it was just as good. The fretwork was better than some of the pros I've had. Fortunately for my wallet, it was over twice the price.

Re: NG(retsch)D + show me your gretsches
Indeed it is, more specifically a photo from this particular BBC appearance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdxkzKdZn2I" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I as well was first inspired by J.Squire to head in the direction of a G6122-1962. Unfazed by the news that his somewhat legendary Shell Pink Strat actually carried the weight of the first Stone Roses LP, roughly 2 decades later I got my post-FMIC Gretsch Gent and discovered what a beast it is to wrestle with, floating bridge and all...Mind you this was after owning a rather lifeless G6122-S (Ceramic filtertrons, roller bridge, real f-holes) in the early 2000s and getting rid of it after just s few months. Back on track, I will admit that the tone that convinced me to get a proper G6122-1962 was from this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1k63D3bl5U" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Dave Coleman puts the thing thru all three pickup positions with a big Fender, and even with the sustain dying out a few times the charm of the thing really convinced me to finally dive into a proper recent make.
Truth be told, my first few recording experiences with the Gent were met with a bit of frustration from not knowing how to initially deal with the bar bridge, including when I arranged/performed the instruments on local musician Fromm's 달, 말하다 (Moon, Talk). Thumpy and curiously dead but with a decent amount of sparkling plunk from the chimey AlNiCo Filtertrons, it's certainly not my best guitar tone but did at least send me in future pursuit of the G.Harrision timbre I was hearing in my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spASdEP8NQg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Addition of a Compton Compensated bridge (stainless steel) changed a lot for me, and now I track with it regularly with its added sparkle, nice attack, and significantly improved sustain. May post one of the janglier commercial tracks I've used it on sometime; Wayne Compton is a fine old chap and does good work on these things!

I've got a set neck Special Jet also, the thing is awesome for country and British invasion stuff for sure. I paid $225 for this guitar used, and I play it almost every day. Its just a very fun airy sounding guitar. Its definitely limited in the kinds of sounds it can produce, But I like the 3 sounds its got!
