I as well was first inspired by J.Squire to head in the direction of a G6122-1962. Unfazed by the news that his somewhat legendary Shell Pink Strat actually carried the weight of the first Stone Roses LP, roughly 2 decades later I got my post-FMIC Gretsch Gent and discovered what a beast it is to wrestle with, floating bridge and all...Mind you this was after owning a rather lifeless G6122-S (Ceramic filtertrons, roller bridge, real f-holes) in the early 2000s and getting rid of it after just s few months. Back on track, I will admit that the tone that convinced me to get a proper G6122-1962 was from this clip:

Truth be told, my first few recording experiences with the Gent were met with a bit of frustration from not knowing how to initially deal with the bar bridge, including when I arranged/performed the instruments on local musician Fromm's 달, 말하다 (Moon, Talk). Thumpy and curiously dead but with a decent amount of sparkling
plunk from the chimey AlNiCo Filtertrons, it's certainly not my best guitar tone but did at least send me in future pursuit of the G.Harrision timbre I was hearing in my head:

Addition of a Compton Compensated bridge (stainless steel) changed a lot for me, and now I track with it regularly with its added sparkle, nice attack, and significantly improved sustain. May post one of the janglier commercial tracks I've used it on sometime; Wayne Compton is a fine old chap and does good work on these things!
