At this time I have 3:
- 2014 Squier VM Bass vi refinished in IBM with an anodized silver guard (Which I use for chordal stuff and doublings more than a conventional bass)
- 2001 American Deluxe Jazz Bass (It's been mostly gathering stuff because of the following)
- 1971 Blue compstang bass,
rescued and saved by forumite will . I love this little low end beast to pieces. So inspiring.
My old bass player had one of those Am Deluxe JBs with the body that looks melted. It was a great bass.

I started playing guitar in 1982 (and still do, badly
) and since 1989 I've owned several basses, mostly 1970s Mustangs or Musicmasters. Even though I've rarely had a regular bass gig, they're always handy to have in the studio. Right now all I've got are cheapie Squiers, a CV Mustang and an Affinity Jazz. Both have La Bella flats on them now and even for cheapies they record great.
The Mustang is Oly White and the Jazz is one of the Charcoal Frost Metallic ones that stores were knocking out for about £175 a couple of years ago.

I just bought my first bass last month. It’s a rouge P-bass copy

I have one of the older (and truly fantastic) Fiesta Red Japanese Mustangs.

I have a Japanese Mustang Bass my brother picked up at a car boot sale that cost me all of £250. I've always felt an element of guilt about owning it because apparently someone else was looking at it, and my brother beat them to the punch, so I've never been able to fully enjoy it. But it's a nice instrument, and perfect for me as a non-bassist.
I'd quite like a full scale bass, and to learn to actually play bass rather than being one of those guitarists that bass players hate because they think they can play bass.

I define a "bass guitar" as a Bass VI, a guitar tuned an octave lower and an "electric bass" as a four string electrified bass that may have additional strings but not tuned EADGBe. In bands I'm typically on bass so I always have had at least one electric bass.
Current electric basses:
2006 Fender Jaguar bass (in the shop getting a NOS Badass II bridge installed)
1981 Peavey T-40
Current bass guitar:
2000 Danelectro UB2 bass VI
The Fender and Peavey are played through my Aguilar/Bag End rig but the Dano VI is more often played through my guitar rig with a generous amount of reverb and tremolo!

I bought a Mexican J-Bass in the 90s to have something to write bass parts with, but found that I just really enjoyed playing it on its own (It is also still one of the best playing & sounding basses I've ever used). I'm still primarily a guitarist, but I love playing bass & have picked up a Squier Bass VI, Mustang & Bronco over the years. The Bronco has become my go-to instrument to play when I want to work out melodies while just relaxing on the couch.

Like a lot of you, I started on guitar, but I honestly prefer playing bass. At least in a band context. I had a dark blue Washburn that was ok (didn't love the active pickups) and a 5-string Schecter which was killer (again, hated the active electronics), and now have my custom Jag Bass (body by Deed_Poll).

Got one or two basses....
been a guitar player all my life but a few years ago decided to finally get some lessons and learn how to play the bass as I had accumulated some over the years.
Now I play bass in a few little groups, playing the occasional small gig here and there.
Having short fingers I always assumed that a short-scale bass would suit better, but after getting these, because they are offsets, they are jaguars and possibly the coolest looking basses ever made, I have found I prefer long scale.
However doing most of the practising sitting down with long scales caused shoulder issues so I started using the short scale Teisco I got from a friend, for $10 back in my youth, for all the round-the- house practice.
However the Teiscos days are probably numbered. The action has always been high, as well having the weakest pickup in the western world, so attempting to adjust the truss rod resulted in the fingerboard lifting off the neck at the nut. In order to get it down meant loosening the truss rod causing an even higher action, it is now 1/4" at the 12 th fret,
So it may be the end for the bass I got for $10 dollars for all those years ago, and have played for at least an hour almost every day for the last seven or so years. It is just not worth spending any money on.
I do know a bloke who builds his own guitars so I will see if he is interested in having a look at it as a last resort.
Luckily I was able to pull this one out of the cupboard to use around the house in its place.

When I was 13 years old, I was in this ludicrously successful pop-punk band. It was like Lord of the Flies. The oldest member was 17. Anyway, we gigged constantly and were in early talks with Drive-Thru Records when things fell apart. Anyway, one of the guys had a friendly uncle who leant me his 65 P-bass for shows. It was cream with tort. Somewhere on this planet is a 35mm disposable snap shot of me playing it. Total swine before the pearls situation. The best part of that story was that it was in a gig bag when we were loading up the van. My drummer came out holding the kick and he couldn't see over it. He didn't realize that he was standing
on the bass.
. I think he only weighed about 100lbs at that point so no worries.
Here's my Craig's List short scale bass I bought for $40 some 6 years ago. I picked it up after I read somewhere that Chaz Bundig recorded all the Bass on Toro Y Moi's Underneath the Pines on a Squier Bronco bass. I just showed this guy, J. Reynolds I suppose, some love yesterday. Proper set-up, polished frets, refined nut. The pop-metal shaft for the tone pot snapped when I was trying to remove the knob, so I wired the pickup direct to the output for the Courtney Love sound.
I have many more bass thoughts, but I should pace myself.

OH SHIT!
That is my :
camera strap in the shot
inability to properly handle film at the top
Squier Affinity P-Bass bought with Christmas money because my Washburn wasn't punk rock enough
Spongebob Squarepants Sticker
What I believe is either MXPX or NOFX (spent a lot of money at Hot Topic)
Complete with faux camera strap guitar strap to match the intruding real camera strap.
those were times, man. They sure were times.

Cheers man!
Yep, I still love that build - it’s one of my most inspiring instruments to play.
