It is to the best of my knowledge, a 62 AVRI Strat. I say to the best of my knowledge as it was labeled and priced as such on the wall, but it is in fact different than the Fender specs for a 62 AVRI.
Like the Hot Rod, it's got the 5 way switch installed (3 way was in the bag in the case) and the pups are hum cancelling in the 2 and 4 positions. Fender specs are with the 3 way installed and a 5 way in the bag, but the pups won't have the 2 and 4 hum cancellation.
Otherwise, I've measured the neck radius (even though it felt 7-1/4") and it comes in as such. The neck is nitro finished and glossy though I'm working on wearing down the finish on the back of the neck . A Hot Rod would have the satin finished neck with a 9-1/2" radius.
Though I have no way to verify this, I believe that during production an assembled hot rod pickguard was installed in a 62 AVRI and it made it on the wall unless the AVRI specs have changed and I didn't know.
It sounds soooo good.
I'm getting it plek'd this Saturday.
Cheers.

Re: Show your Non-offsets
Thanks for the compliments! I absolutely love this guitar. These guitars are generally overlooked and priced well under 5k. My '73 ES-335 has a slim, sleek and sublimely comfortable neck that fits in my left hand like a glove. The patent number pickups sound terrific, especially the neck pickup which delivers all the right woody warmth and soft, jazzy vibes. The bridge pickup has all the raunch, compression, and soulfullness I could ever want from a 335. Even with a Bigsby, the guitar weighs in under 8lbs. It makes me wonder how a such a Gibson like mine managed to get past the Norlin bean-counters is a mystery (maybe some old-timer felt compelled to make the occasional peach just to remind himself that he could still do it).
I have been in the habit of of trading and selling many guitars over the years. However, this 335 is just amazing, and I'll never sell it. I use this guitar for everything and it offers heaps of potential from just being a 'blues or jazz' instrument. It happens to be my most versatile guitar.

Did you got it that way for economical reasons, or do you think it improves tone? Or both?mcjt wrote: No stain. just tung oil.

Re: Show your Non-offsets
i like french polish and other more 'artisinal' finishes. tung oil is very resistant and long lasting.
what better than a very thin hardened oil finish on a guitar? Especially fantastic koa! Though my strat does't sound like a ukelele, fortunately.
So... Both.

I really like that Koa...interesting idea for sure. Also I'm a huge fan of black pickguards on strats so good job there too I've always loved the plain Rick 620 with it's hand rubbed oil finish. Nice looking guitar.
How much was this to assemble if you don't mind me asking?
