Hey man, i don’t recall seeing a comparison of your Strats, unless i missed it in a NGD thread or something.

What are your thoughts? I simply love the look of the 73 and want it to sound amazing.

Cheers!

The 73 is lovely. Never come across a pre-75 CBS with original finish before. It’s lightweight, pickups are pretty punchy & the neck is super comfortable. It’s v slim at the nut & doesn’t get massive once you get to the 12th fret. Great for me.

The 77 feels like home. It’s a good 500g heavier & the neck is a little bigger, nothing that bothers me though. The SDS-1 in the bridge is right up my street, although it seems to play weird with the Princeton and drive pedals - they react as though the output is higher than my Les Paul.

73 is going to get flipped. I might regret it, just that I don’t need one Strat, let alone two. And a sadly cynical outcome is there’s profit in it: something I need after taking a £500 hit on selling the CS Jaguar.

P.s. my friend is over from Australia in June & I could persuade try to persuade him to fly it back if you wanted ;D

Don’t tempt me!

3-tone sunburst large headstock strats have always had a special place in my heart.

After playing an AV II in a shop, I’ve never wanted a strat so bad. The most stereotypical guitar ever. Yet, I want one of them. Unfortunately, after splurging on a Les Paul last year it will be a while before I can get my hands on one. Adult priorities loom.

Dammit I just traded a Classic Vibe for a late 70s Yamaki Strat in a beautiful aged pink plus a little cash. I'm supposed to be getting RID of guitars.

Also - picked up this old warhorse FST-70 cheap-ish a couple of years ago.

Not strictly necessary but I felt I had to do this:

Trying to decide if the other plastics should go black as well. It's a very good guitar and I want it to look its best.

I’m not usually a fan of black pick guards, but in this case it looks great. I’d leave the other plastics as they are - it makes it more visually interesting.

Black on black is so nice.

Pardon my repost.

I have another pg waiting, that I’m gonna do a single vol only on, a little lower, but I’ve pushed any/all guitar projects to the side for a few, and it’s still waiting.

The white knobs don't do it for me on the black pickguard. I'd match them to the pickups. That would be nicer than all black.

In no way am I intending on taking away from the Gilmour aesthetic.
I love that too.

Black pickguard looks awesome but i would find a set of cream knobs to match the pickups.

Recently, I've actually fallen out of love for the strats.

I have a nice beat sunburst '62, but sometimes i wonder why.
My comp stang and '62 jag can really cover most of the "strat" anyway.

I do have cream knobs, but for some reason they creep me out, they look like soft candy or something. I agree the white is too white. I’ll try some black ones when I find some.
