Would someone be willing to share a link to the Chinese toaster pups. At that price I can get inspired. Thanks.

Hansbrinker, the pickup you bought is the exact same size as this one in the link below. Same size as Jimboyogi‘s as well. They have two different heights too.

Can you take measurements of the ones you got and let us curious folk know? The dimensions are in the link.

Thx

Here's the link:

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Directly ... .55.QXBPr4

As you can see, it was $28.32 total (shipping to the U.S).

I haven't gotten mine yet, but here are the dimensions from the site:

Width: 90mm
Length: 37.5mm
Height: 16mm
Center-to-center of the mounting holes: 82.5mm

Neck & bridge are both 7.95k ohm.

I've already contacted Curtis Novak and he said he'll rewire the guts to Rick specs. One big caveat - especially to tribi9: I won't know if they'll fit our builds until I get them. I'm optimistic, but I can't be sure until they get here.

Here's a link to a Ric thread I did, including experimentation with pups inside these Chinese toaster covers. Sorry no dimensions in the thread.

If so 88.9 width for the toasters
No problem - we're all in this together!

No, those dimensions are not the same as what came with the guitar, but I've already taken the pups off of my guitar, and measuring the holes they should fit. If need be I'll add some Rick rubber grommets to the screws, but I'm optimistic.

Can you not measure them? Would be even easier now that they're out of the guitar. ;D

Alright, alright... :-/ here are the measurements - both in inches and metric - for the pickups that came in my 360F (see guitar pics in prior post for visual):

Bracket:
Width: 3 11/14" / 94mm
Height: 1 3/4" / 44mm
Depth: 1/16" / 2mm

From center-to-center of bracket screws:
Width: 3 3/8" / 85mm
Height: 1 7/16" / 36mm

Pickup:
Width: 2 3/4" / 70mm
Height: 1 3/16" / 31mm
Depth: 3/4" / 18mm

Let me know if you have any other questions.

How is the Guitar Playing?
And How is your overall rating?

Okay, so the grommets wont work. You got 2mm extra on each side.

Actually, on my real Rick, the grommets protrude about 2mm out each side.

The guitar played well - better than I expected. For the money, the body, finish, fretboard and overall build is pretty amazing.

That said - like most Chinese guitars - the parts are crummy (though the tuners aren't bad) so I'm switching out the pickups, the wiring harness, the tailpiece, the nut, the bridge and the pick guard/trc. Who knows, after doing all of that I might switch out the tuners if I can find a good deal.

For guitars that are easy to find - Rick 330s, LPs, SGs, Teles, Strats, etc., it makes more sense to buy the cheapest version of each brand and mod them yourself. For this model, it's out of the question because it's so rare.

I'm going to have them route out my next 360F build for Rick toasters. For those who are taking that road, what dimensions/templates are you giving them for accuracy? i'm afraid that it'll be off from the neck or the distance between the two pickups will be wonky if left up to the Chinese builders.

Coincidentally, ever since this thread started I've been pondering sending them the image of a Rickenbacker 480/Jazzmaster mashup I once made and hear what they could do for me.

That looks really cool! I did a quick photoshop job on a 480 with a Starcaster headstock after posting hah. Couldn't decide if it looked cool or weird. It goes well with the other changes you've made tho.

I'd be very interested to know if they are willing/able to do complete custom builds like yours. I have a Maton mash-up I came up with a few years ago that I've been wanting to see done but keep having to put off. I was in talks with a forumite about getting it done a long time ago, this may be a good proof of concept though to hammer out the exact specs and features. Definitely got me thinking!

They beat around the bush a lot. A lot of times all you get for a response is "Dont worry we will make a perfect guitar for you" Ive emailed countless of times through my Chinese Rick saga, and im willing to bet that at least 60% of the time thats all i got for a reply. :fp:

Im still hating the pickup rings but i guess i can add it to the list of guitar related things i dont give a fuck about. I told him to change the logo and to put toasters. The toasters they said, they dont have any. So i mentioned that a "friend" Hansbrinker is getting one made and that they were going to put the toaster style pickups and shiwed the picture with the 2 sizes they sent Hansbrinker They said, that it must be a mistake because they dont have them in stock any longer.
