Re: Korina Jazzmaster/Jazzblaster variant...
Little bit of progress last night in the sweltering heat:
..starting to look like a guitar now. Just waiting on the copper tape and electronics to arrive and I can make a bit of solid progress.

Looks great Johnny! Do the pickups and vibrato fit alright?

Haven't got that far yet. The neck pocket is about 3mm too shallow though which is bugging me a bit... Not too sure what I'm gonna do about that yet.Deed_Poll wrote:Looks great Johnny! Do the pickups and vibrato fit alright?

Oh crap what have I done there? I'll go back over the CNC and see what has happened. Really sorry about that.johnnysomersett wrote:Haven't got that far yet. Johnny, I just checked the toolpath and it's saying 0.5625" (14.288mm) which is 9/16" as a fraction. This is original spec on a Jazzmaster, as opposed to 5/8" for a Strat or Tele. What measurement are you getting on the piece?
Cheers

Man, that thing is purdy! I would go with a custom decal on the headstock in the Fender style. It's too unique and beautiful to give the credit to Fender.

Hmm, I can't be sure as I can't find my calipers but it looks to be about 8/16th on a tape so you're probably right. Maybe the heel of the neck is actually too thick.Deed_Poll wrote:Johnny, I just checked the toolpath and it's saying 0.5625" (14.288mm) which is 9/16" as a fraction. Just checked the pickup holes, had to file those out a bit actually...you could do with making them a little bigger in future (checked with AVRI covers). That's no biggie though.
I did just do this, however (and yes, the Trump sticker is meant ironically before anyone thinks I'm a daft racist idiot ):

Thanks so much for the advice on the routes Johnny I really appreciate it, and I'm sorry you've had to file stuff down to fit. I take most of my measurements from my '65 JMs, but obviously with things like depths I might have made a mistake setting the height of the Z axis to zero so it might be out a tiny bit because of that. I'll add another half a millimeter to the outer edges of the pickup routes in the body, does that sound about right?
Mockup looks fantastic! I hope you don't have any more issues with the routes, I am here for you to sort anything out and help however I can

Buddy, don't stress it. There's almost always fettling to do on any project. I might have some weirdly sized p'up covers or something - who knows! Regardless, it's looking good anyway and coming together nicely. As soon as the other bits arrive it should go together really quick.Deed_Poll wrote:Thanks so much for the advice on the routes Johnny I really appreciate it, and I'm sorry you've had to file stuff down to fit. I had to take about 1mm-1.5mm off the bottom of the pickup holes and deepen the curves a bit to fit them in - and they are still tight - so it's up to you how much to shave. I guess 0.5mm all round would probably do the job.

Nice one man. It's thanks to your feedback that I want to work towards making sure my bodies and pickguards will hopefully present as few issues as possible.

I have one in my main JM as a bridge pickup...love it and sounds pretty accurate too. Never tried a Novak so can't compare.tonehungry wrote:great build man! have you had experience with the Creamery Pickups WRHB JM p'ups, been thinking of putting one on the bridge of my jazzmaster....wonder how they compare to novak's version.
Would recommend.

Wow, that is gorgeous!
Who made the neck? It's hard to find "Fender-style" B&B (Many like Warmoth are Gibson-style blocks). I'm thoroughly jealous.
