a 1962 AVRI guard worked for me. A new 1965 AVRI should be ok too.
good luck!

I prefer the stock white guard over all of those options.
Also looks more 'vintage correct' than the incredibly fake looking Fender 'mint' guards.

Re: Surf Green Jazzmaster with what pickguard?
Update: I Decided to go with the Mint Green Pickguard. The only issue is that I purchased one from Stratosphere. Although the pickguard fits great, the mint green is a little too green as other threads have mentioned. I've been thinking about maybe doing a parchment, official Fender mint, or cream pickguard. So I ordered another Stratosphere pickguard but in vintage cream this time. Below is the pictures I was using to get an idea of the different shades stratosphere offers. As far as I know, they are the only ones who offer a cream guard but I could be wrong. Also, below are pictures of before and after switching to the Stratosphere mint with also ditching the buzzstop.

do parchment or eggshell, like i said earlier, and stain with tea or coffee to get your preferred colour.
if you start getting in to shades of mint, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

There is a colour called "ivory" which does it for me as a mint green stand in. It's a kind of cream really, but I've never seen an old pickguard the colour most "mint green" comes in or anything like it TBH.
Mcjt is totally right that the whole mint green wagon is a frustrating one.
A lot of people also don't think about the colour they're contrasting with their choice. For instance if somebody wanted mint green to go with a red guitar, you could pick cream and it would look green next to the red.

I forgot that I had posted in this thread, and I saw the pic of my basses and thought "hey someone used my photo!"
...and it was me.

I think that a SPITFIRE pick guard would just be the best.

FWIW. I play a surf green Strat a lot with a white pearl plate. Now, I use it a lot for home recording, so when not being played, it;s out on a stand. It often gets compliment from non-playing ladies, who think the colour and pearl look "work well together."

Yes, I think he (the guy who makes Spitfire guards) has a template for those MIM guitars.dmin77 wrote:Do Spitfire guards fit these MIM Jazzmasters?idropinus wrote:I think that a SPITFIRE pick guard would just be the best.

Update: This is with the Stratosphere Cream Pickguard
I have the parchment Pickguard coming in tomorrow, so I'll post a picture of that when I try it on.

Update: Last but not least, this is with the Stratosphere Parchment. It is a bit whiter than I was hoping, but that's just the nature of the color. It's still a huge difference held up against the stock bright white.

Parchment looks great - reckon it's a keeper. The cream is too...cream.
I'm glad you're doing this, because I'm in the process of assembling a surf green JM, and have been thinking a fair bit about pickguard colour.
Cheers!
