Mackerel Mint, if I do make the prototype that way I'll give you first refusal after photographs!
If I do get the Rickenbacker police on me, maybe I could do one in the shape of a Gibson 335 only a flat top with the teardrop pickguard and tailpiece contour like this one... I definitely think there's mileage in it. Nobody's done that before as far as I know, maybe with good reason.
stop posting stop posting stop posting I can't afford it!
Edit: I suspect the Ricky police would only come knocking if you were making huge quantities of them. There are a few custom builders making Combo 600-shaped guitars without any apparent trouble.

Not a fan of the chrome plastic pickup cover wich I think cheapens the look. But apart from that it is stunning! Well done!

That's because the Combo and the Tulip are not patented like Rickenbacker's other body shapes. The old "Gumby" headstocks arn't either.

@SJ Perry -
I tried to do checkerboard binding but it's actually really difficult to make a texture that will follow the contour. But yes, it did look good where it worked!

In theory, these would be super easy to make on the machine as it's all top routed with no contours and only a simple roundover on the back the same all the way around - not like a JM where you have to blend the larger radius into a smaller radius around the neck plate.
In that case you should go semi-hollow

I like the 335 version too for a fat bodied guitar. Maybe pointy horns like this one?

That 335 hybrid is great!
And you know, a hollowbody rickenjagger wouldn't suck at all. It would be like a ricked out surfcaster, and would look super duper hot in surf green...
This is an excellent rectangle

That's a good idea, Ken. Made me think of this Yamaha SA-50 - could definitely work with the Ricky theme without being an outright copy of a 330... Even as a flat top with the ramp I think it would look pretty good.
