Jazzmaster Wiring KIt?

Post by donnyII » Fri Nov 10, 2006 11:02 am

Is this any good? It says it has switchcraft and cts parts, which are what i would probably buy anyway, but has anyone ever used this?

looks good, but the price is steep.  Now, I know for fact, that a Jaguar (collectively) requires 9 feet of wire in total.  A jazzmaster should require a bit less than that, so I'm guessing they're providing 8 feet...I figure you can get all those same parts from allparts.com for around $50 or so.  Couldn't hurt to look, anyway.

Aug's right, that is kinda expensive. You can buy all these parts separately for less. Here your just paying for the convenience of having everything in one keystroke... but that's really not such a big deal.
Q. Are we not men?

I've got one of these kits in an LP. Best $55 I've ever spent. Super nice guys too.
Bigger in sum than parts.

Those capacitors in the Acme kit look exactly like what came stock in my MIJ jazzmaster. IMO the most important part is the cap, and if your gonna replace everything with better parts, use Sprague caps. The Hovland Caps from rsguitarworks are nice but overpriced.

You might have to enlarge some holes a bit. I switched out the input jack on my Jazzmaster with a switchcraft; it was a little larger than the stock one, but it fit right in. The stock washer wouldn't fit over the switchcraft one though.

Edit: plus you will probably need new roller knobs.

Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.

What do the RS kits (JM) go for?

I'd probably buy from the Acme guys because they're from Delaware.  ;)

35 for solid shaft potentiometers; 45(?)  for split. If you go with acme, I suggest you  do yourself a favor and spend the extra 5-10 it would cost to get sprague capacitors.

Get alpha pots, they're just as good if not better imo as CTS and smallbear sells them for $1.25 each, far cheaper than CTS or repackaged CTS sold as fender. He has 24mm and 16mm from 1k up to 2meg Linear and audio, reverse log also.
Any "kit" form shit is expensive and unnecessary imo anyways.
They have a tiny tab on the side you need to break of first though...it just snaps of with pliers with no effort at all,it's impossible to mess it up.

Alpha's feel soft and smooth when you turn them as opposed to the last 4 CTS pots I've bought which feel dry and turn too easy. :)

Edit:if you need the Jazzmaster type knobs for solid shaft pots Guitar Parts Resource sells them but only black.
