I thought so too. I made it about 14" deep, which would be fine as I don't mind the body sticking out a bit, but it's not resting on both sides of the butt of the guitar evenly. To get it so that the guitar neck is angled in and resting securely in its little groove, the butt is pretty much resting on the strap hooks. Not a huge deal, but it doesn't feel as secure as I'd like it to, you know?

I'm looking forward to this! Ready to cut very soon. I'll update here :)

It'll be my first German Carve too so I'm excited to see how it goes!

Thanks! I've got some fun stuff going on and it's gonna be a good year next year (hopefully early!!) when everything starts getting finished and all that! I'm gonna have to wait for tax time to get a couple necks I think, but man, I can't wait!!

Few updates: Dan/Deed_Poll is cutting and sanding the body Tele-JM hybrid humbucker guitar! The pickups are ordered, and I just got notification that they shipped this morning. I decided on a set of Mules from Bare Knuckle with a custom cover  Still deciding on some of the smaller details (knobs, etc.). The neck is also ordered (Warmoth) which I'm almost positive everyone is gonna hate as it's a 3X3 tuner head, but not a Gibson-style :D

Also, just finished the wiring schematic I'll be using for it!
Image
Instead of a doing a 2 volume, 2 tone setup, I decided on a setup like Reverends and G&L have with a master volume, master tone, and bass contour, but I'm also adding a mini-varitone (2 specific capacitors instead of a spread of 6 like an actual Gibson Varitone) and a cocked wah switch too! Should be quite a variety of tones :)

What values will you use for the capacitors?

Not sure yet! What I'm gonna do is mount the pickups with the wires hanging out and try out the pot and capacitor values with my breadboard. Seeing how's it's guitar, I have a couple ideas as a starting point for cap values, but we'll see what sounds good. What I'm curious about (and will probably ask for suggestions around here) is what cap values I'm gonna use for that circuit for the bass...

Considering that the famous Motorik was my inspiration for color scheme ( :? :-* :-* :-* :-* ):
Image
...I wanted as much cream color in the pickups as I could. I did also want chrome too, but typical old-school chrome-covered PAF's would be too much chrome I thought. I ordered a matched set of The Mules from Bare Knuckle, and while looking around, I discovered their radiator covers :w00t:

Well...

...they arrived about 10 minutes ago! What do you guys think (it's kinda overcast here today and my indoor lighting doesn't show the color well at all)?

Thanks guys!! I'm so excited for ALL my projects, but I've never bonded with humbuckers before and I think the Mules are the ones to do it, so I'm REALLY excited for this one :-)

Couple new updates!!

Around xmas, I ordered the neck for both the Offset Tele (humbucker guitar) and Jag Bass. Both arrived today. Both from Warmoth and feel amazing.

For the humbucker guitar, I ordered a mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard in the Warmoth Vortex head shape, painted black for the head face (Gibson-ish). Put the tuners on and they feel awesome!

The bass neck, I ordered a roasted maple (first one for me!) with a rosewood fretboard. I've played a roasted maple before (lefty Suhr Strat down in Kentucky last year), but I am completely blown away by the smooth feeling and dark caramel-y color. This thing feels amazing. Like, ridiculously amazing. I might buy a roasted maple neck for every guitar project from here on. The grain pattern is gorgeous too, and the roasting really brings it out.

Color comparison between my recently finished DVD shelves (stained in a dark brown)...

Image
Color comparison between my Warmoth Tele neck (vintage yellow) and the roasted maple... So good. The Tele neck isn't as yellow in person.

Also, I ordered both necks to have the glow-in-the-dark side dots for the hell of it. These things ROCK! I hit them with the flashlight from my phone for about 2 seconds each, and the whole side of the neck was easy to see in a pitch black room, from about 5 feet away!!

Haha, I know what you mean! It feels super solid and dense. I bet it will sound amazing.
