Did someone tried the new strat shaped goldfoils?

Thanks for the info,I haven't checked Guitar Fetish in a while, they look and sound quite nice! I also hope someone will bite the bullet on these ones...surfin_bird wrote:Did someone tried the new strat shaped goldfoils?

How much you wanna bet the Strat style ones are made just like Strat pickups. But with new covers?
I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"

They describe them as using shorter magnet polls and scatter wound coils-having a mini HB sound rather than a Strat sound. Could be interesting and at $60 a set not a bad deal for someone bored with the normal strat sound. I have not gotten to a Strat type project yet and I have a nice set of Rose Pickups Mariposa pickups for that one so I'm not interested in these yet but I'm leaning towards a project with HBs so a set of gold foils in that form may be in order.

The Strat-sized ones should fit a Jaguar, right? I'm deep into a Tele rewiring project at the moment, but I think I'll try the neck and mid ones in a VM Squire Jag when that's finished.
I just can't decide whether chrome or white covers would be better.

I doubt they would fit a Jag, Strat pickups have that bump where the wires go in-Jag pickups don't and they are a little bigger too.

I have no idea how the guitar sounds, but based on these pics it'd be criminal to let this thing go.FearTheWalken wrote:Just thought I should post this before I trade this guitar. Talk me out of it...

Re: GFS Goldfoil pickups - now with comparison clips!
These are still some of my favorite pickups. The strat ones look cool. If I could think of a way to make them work I would put them in my Squier Jag. I have a Ferrite bucker and alnico single coil in an old build I did as a teenager and dual alnico humbuckers in my Reverend Rocco. I don't think I have posted pics of them so here we go.
Reverend:
My melted Jazzmaster/semi Firebird looking build when it had a pickguard made out of a floor tile pained with textured copper paint... it now has a wooden guard but no pic of that.
I've posted the Squier before, but for fun...not sure if I could somehow mount the gold foil singles on this or if I even want to. Maybe just get black covers or get some jag covers chrome plated instead of these things:

I just bought a set of Strat size Gold Foils in chrome for my '65 RI Mustang. Will be placing the middle rw in the neck and bridge in its place. I'll let you guys know how it sounds and possibly sound clips too.Gordon wrote:Thanks for the info,I haven't checked Guitar Fetish in a while, they look and sound quite nice! Re: GFS Goldfoil pickups - now with comparison clips!
Long time listener, first time caller. This isn't an offset, but this forum thread was very helpful to me in deciding whether or not to try the Gold Foils, so I thought I'd post this here.
Epiphone Les Paul Special II purchased for $100 on Craigslist, three HB-sized ferrite single coil Gold Foils, a bit of woodwork from my guitar guy, a handful of components from eBay, and about 6 hours of wiring. It's got Dan Armstrong Super Strat pickup switching, and a G&L-style PTB tone circuit. You can reverse the phase of the neck and/or middle positions with push-pull switches. The volume pot is 500k, but if you pull the bass cut knob it adds another 510k in parallel with the volume pot so as to simulate a 250k pot.
It being the OffsetGuitars forum and this being my first post, I suppose I had better post my bonafides:
