Anyone have a hotrail in their Jag?
The bridge on my vm is nice and traditional sounding but I need something that will handle more gain since I sold my SG. I have already ordered the thing (seymourduncan bridge) but was just curious what you guys think. I'll also be installing a mastery bridge and upgrading my strings from 9s to 11s (still has factory set-up). There were limited clips of jags with hotrails on the net so if anyone had sound clips it'd be great.

I used to play with a guy, that had one in his Jag. It was pretty cool.
Scott Hill from Fu Manchu used to play Jags, with Hotrails in the bridge.

While I eventually went in another direction, I was very impressed with the sound of those pickups in a Jaguar. Maybe not the most vintage sounding pickup though I'm far from a traditionalist! Very tight when using a lot of gain. I think you'll have a great time with it!

Awesome. Is that a mastery I spy also?... Really curious about the sustain on it with both modifications.HNB wrote:Mine does.

Re: Anyone have a hotrail in their Jag?
Back in the mid 1990's my Jaguar used to have a DiMarzio Fast Track 2 in the bridge and a Chopper in the neck.
The combo of the really hot and midbumped sound of the Fast Track 2 w/ 1meg ohm pots was is still a sound I miss today.
My Jag has single coils now, but someday I'll get another and bring this one back to the DiMarzio Fast track 2/Chopper combo.
It was THEE grunge sound for me back then. With a Turbo Rat and any amp I could play through, tube or solid, my sound came with me.
SD Hot Rails always sell because they are popular and you can get them anywhere, but the Dimarzio rail style pickups are where it's at for tone and diversity.
Try em out! They even make a Super Distortion rail pickup now.

As a normal Jaguar. Two pickup switches and hipass filter.

Just use the normal Jaguar wiring. Hot from each pickup to each switch and a capacitor on the third one. Check your wiring. Make sure grounds are connected right.

Re: Anyone have a hotrail in their Jag?
Did you connect the humbuckers middle wires to each other and tape them off? If they aren't connected the pickup wouldn't work. One hot wire, the bare and one color is ground and the remaining two get soldered to each other for the humbucker to be in series. For duncan pickups, the black wire is hot, red and white get soldered to each other and taped off, and the green wire and the bare one are soldered to ground.

The black pickup wire from your Duncan bridge pickup goes to the middle slider switch. In the picture diagram they show it as white. The neck Duncan pickups black wire goes to the upper slider that you see the white wire go to in the picture diagram.
