Johnny Marr Jaguar project

Post by amzngsam » Mon Jan 27, 2014 11:19 am

Looking to turn a 66 RI jaguar with block inlays into a Johnny Marr Jaguar.
What would I need to do ? 1. Cosmetically....and non- cosmetically (i.e. Bare Knuckle pickups etc.)
And where would I be able to get the items for the project as well?
Thanks...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Amzngsam,

If you happen to find out where to get the control plates, will you please let me know. I would love to do this project as well. I actually have an orange one, but would love to mod another guitar to make a second.

Thanks!

Stereordinary (Paul) makes the plates.

He was doing NAMM this year so he may be a little busy... I know there was a for sale thread for his plates though.

Thanks for the info.

I did a search and found a thread where it appears that a user named strider13 is now making the plates. Unless that is wrong information, it seems like I should contact him.

Thanks again!

Do you have to modify the pickguard?

I am pretty positive you would not have to modify the pickgaurd, you would just replace the normal plates with the custom ones. If you do a search for control plate in the forum, it will return a thread where they actually show the different options they can make them with. It appears that strider13 or Stereordinary are the users to contact about getting them made. The wiring is of course different than the standard Jag as well. Here is a thread I found on the site that contains a link to the wiring diagram: http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... =7&t=42174

Hope that helps.

Oh, Also the guys at Staytrem are the ones to contact about the bridge and trem arm. I have a couple of the arms and they are great for fixing the floppy arm problem. :) A bit expensive, but worth it if you have a floppy arm.
I like the bridge as well, but I had an extra mastery bridge that I put on mine.

ok so controls are potentially located.....
so what about pickups, and telecaster style switches with the little metal knob. Or anything else I'm missing?

I'm coming down the home stretch of my own Marr Jag project. The parts are at the tech being assembled. Mine's black.

You're on the right track for all the parts mentioned so far. I got my pickups from Bare Knuckle. They're not (at least they weren't) listed on the website, but I just asked BK to make me a set of the JM pickups and it was not a problem.

I just went with a standard Dakaware black Tele switch knob. You can get an interesting metal tip from Marc Rutters:

http://ruttersguitars.com/Hot_Rod_Parts.html

The steroeordinary plates are the standard Jag outline, so the pickguard fits fine. I used AVRI parts for all the standard bits.

Let me know if you have other questions.

You can get a StayTrem bridge and trem collet from http://staytrem.com/. Site is down until the 24th of Feburary though. Staytrem also sells polished stainless steel switch tips, I have one on my Marr jag and it's a must IMO, the Fender one is just plastic and feels cheap.

Since you are making it from the ground up, how about 5-way switching? You could add an out of phase setting to the other 4.

How much were the pickups from bareknuckle?
