Yeah just buy a new guard. Interestingly, I've seen JMJMs with the more muted gold, they must have changed it at some point. You can see it in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=108587&p=1502624

FWIW this is what actual wear looks like on a JMJM guard. It doesn't really fade, just comes off in some parts.

I know some people like the worn look - but that (and the aluminum-siding feeling that gives me nail-on-chalkboard vibes) is why I haven’t let myself take the anodized plunge yet.

It would take a LOT of playing to get that much wear out of an ano guard. When I’ve had to strip amp off before with a belt Sander and 120g paper it has still taken a lot of work.
