while we're on the topic, has anyone successfully yellowed/aged dougs' nos witch hats?

i tried soaking them in coffee the other day, but no luck.

i'm thinking of hitting them with a little tinted clear coat, but i fear that'll make them too yellow.

I think a lot of us have had luck "coffee-ing" our knobs.  I know I have.  Mine came out a nice, cream color almost to match the aged AVRI pickup covers after about forty-five minutes.  Some people have different results time-wise, but I think you're the first person I've read that it didn't work for...
:(

...was it hot coffee?
One more guitar, then I'll practice!

you have to leave them for "hours" rather than "minutes"  ... the volume knob seems to brown quicker than the tone knobs
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

ok, that's the problem then.

i left them in for 20 minutes or so and the coffee was not hot, just warm.

i'll try it again soon.

should i keep the coffee hot while soaking?

Yep!

Below 80 degrees celsius or else the knobs melt - I know..... :o

I calle them "the guinea pig of knob coffee treatment"....  ;D

I think I made the day for Fullerplast anyway - because he sent me another pair for free  ;)

BTW- leave them in the coffee overnight.
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

when these knobs age naturally, they turn yellow/cream, so i think making them mint green would look wrong. if you coffee the knobs 'til the are the same shade as AVRI pup covers, it's gonna look great with a mint guard.

but if you want to turn them mint green anyway, whatever you do, don't use turmeric or curry! i tried it on a pair of pup covers and they turned a very bright and nasty yellowy green.

It's for my Jazzblaster, so the pups have chrome covers  :P
the switch tip is cream, and the pickguard is mint (a little more than a stock mint JM guard)

I think cream/aged white knobs and covers look awesome on mint pickguards!

....all minty would look a little pale IMO.
A little like having an actual all white guitar - white fin, white PG, white knobs/covers. The "all white" looks way better with aged OLY fin, mint PG, cream knobs/covers. It adds a dimension to the appearance.

....but then again an all black is quite cool  :-\

it seems everyone is having different results. my tone knob took about five days sitting in coffee with extra grounds thrown in.

two weeks and counting for the volume knob and not much progress.

maybe i should try another volume knob? (i have a few sets)

why would the two react differently?
