Yes, a pickguard alone would have gotten you there much cheaper.

Yeah, if I'd known what the end result would be going in, I might have made some different decisions along the way. At the very least, I should have had a strong color preference in mind before I started stripping the body - that was my biggest mistake. No regrets whatsoever on the Kay pickup or Jaguar bass neck, though...tribi9 wrote:Yes, a pickguard alone would have gotten you there much cheaper.
The whole gang at the shop there is super sweet. Scott showed me around the entire shop; it was really cool. I dropped my Duo Jet off to have some work done along with the bass, and they did a stellar job on that as well.noisepunk wrote: Glad he's still doing business down there.

I only met him a couple times, but he seems like a great guy. He had just started doing the chipboard parlor guitar restorations right before he left Denver, which was right around the time I found my first, so I was super into it.pacemaker wrote:The whole gang at the shop there is super sweet. Re: Baby bass (Bronco project)
Where did you get that pickguard?! I really want a bronco-shaped guard for my Mustang bass, and I don't really see them around the webz. Mint/blk/mint would be ideal.pacemaker wrote:It's done! It's finally done!
As I mentioned earlier, I took the bass to Baxendale Guitars in Athens, GA to do the refinish. He does some cool work on Harmony/Silvertone guitars so I knew he'd get my vision on this. We talked about how to approximate the Jupiter finish for some time, but he said he'd just be kind of shooting in the dark on it, so I decided to go for a straight-up black finish. I actually love the way it turned out. It's occurred to me that I could've gotten to this point a lot quicker (and cheaper) by starting with a black Bronco bass, but what the hell. They put D'Addario ECB81S flatwounds on it, and it's a lot of fun - it plays great and sounds pretty good too.

Being a fan of long scale basses, how different is the sound? I usually find that the low E is really weak and tubby. Found a way to remedy it?
