Re: So confused about US vs. Japanese pickguards & where to
Hi, I'm still confused reading this thread. Can anyone definitively say that this pickguard will fit my 2010 MIJ Jazzmaster?

Allparts fit all CIj/MIJ Jaguars and Jazzmasters (including the J Mascis).
Allparts do not fit CIJ/MIJ Mustangs.
Allparts do not fit fit AVRI, MIM and other Squiers made in Indonesia.
I hope its clear now.
Bonus - if you can find an Allparts AG pickguard you are in the CIJ.MIJ paradise.

For a good deal on a U.S. spec pickguard try EY guitars. http://www.eyguitarmusic.com/Jazzmaster ... _c_79.html

Allparts doesn't have Jaguar HH pickguards. WD does and I was thinking about getting this mint green HH guard to go on my MIJ sunburst Jag that I'm planning to drop Filtertrons (chrome) in.

Has anyone else done a similar mod and were there issues with the holes not lining up?

Do you know if this is true with the anodized gold pickguard? I'm looking for one for a CIJ JM. And it says "fits some imports" which gives me no confidence to drop $100 into a pickguard that won't fit.

AllParts pickguards will fit the CIJ / Japanese J. Mascis perfectly and should also fit other CIJ guitars as well.
There is even one of those old "Made in Japan" gold rectangular stickers on the back. Pitch Perfect Music and Guitar Parts Resource sell the All Parts / Japanese pickguards.

Look at the picture; you can easily tell by the shape which template they used. This pic is tortoise and it's upside down, but the easiest thing to do with any pickguard is to look at the way it's cut around the bridge pickup. On the Japanese template (Allparts in the image below), the vertical edge is straight until it makes its 90 degree turn under the bridge. On the American template, this edge is angled.Jazzbastard89 wrote:Do you know if this is true with the anodized gold pickguard? I'm looking for one for a CIJ JM. This has been 100% reliable in my experience. I have never seen a pickguard that had a straight line there but fit American JM's or vice versa. If you have a hard time seeing the angle at first, just look at how close the screw hole is to the edge in that spot.
Incidentally, this is also a really easy way to tell where a JM was actually made just by looking at a picture of it. A few CIJ/MIJ owners have figured out ways to shoehorn American pickguards on their guitars, but 99% of the time you can tell a CIJ/MIJ vs. a US-made JM just by this one little edge of the pickguard.
btw I have a slightly older Allparts gold guard and it definitely does NOT fit CIJ's. But from what I understand they have changed suppliers so I'm not sure things are the same anymore.

That is super helpful, thank you. Though it is difficult to tell when they are not side by side. For instance, can you tell which template was used on this? https://www.allparts.com/PG-0582-060-Go" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... _2681.html

Definitely US template.Jazzbastard89 wrote:That is super helpful, thank you. Though it is difficult to tell when they are not side by side. For instance, can you tell which template was used on this?
And this is the way it was when I bought mine; all their pickguards *except* gold would fit CIJ's.

Thank you for your help. It has been extremely difficult trying to find an anodized guard that will fit the Japanese Jazzmaster. Any suggestions?

Re: So confused about US vs. Japanese pickguards & where to
It is difficult - I have both an AVRI and a CIJ and I looked for one for my CIJ for a while too. They do exist, they're just hard to find and may be expensive when they pop up (depending on the seller).Jazzbastard89 wrote:Thank you for your help. Allparts Japan used to make them - they are owned by Kanda Shokai, which *was* Fender Japan, so they're probably the same pickguard as appeared on Japanese Jazzmasters that used gold pickguards. So you can either look around for one of those separately either in Japan or elsewhere (you can use a service like buyee.jp to browse and buy from Yahoo Japan auctions, though I don't see any there right now), or you can wait for somebody to part out a purple J. Mascis JM here, which were made in Japan and used that pickguard.
Interestingly, Allparts UK is showing a picture of the Japanese pickguard, though it's out of stock there anyway: https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/pi ... -aluminium
But you could contact them and ask if they're going to get it back, and I'd somehow make sure the pic is really right before ordering that. Allparts never seems to realize that they had two different gold pickguards. The US site had the US pickguard when I bought mine, and they still show the US picture. But the UK site may carry the Japanese one from Allparts Japan.
Or you could pay out the nose for what's probably the same pickguard right now: https://www.drumsetc.com/content/fender ... 364-000-ru
That's definitely a Japanese template pickguard.
You could also have one made by somebody, but that would probably cost about that same amount.
btw, there is also a listing on Ebay that *shows* a Japanese pickguard but the description says it's not: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Pickguard-F ... 2548.l4275
Often people don't really know, though, so you could contact them and ask if they have any other pics of the actual item, especially around the bridge area.

Re: So confused about US vs. Japanese pickguards & where to
Thanks for the info, I've been looking at pickguards for my CIJ Jazzmaster too. Its annoying because Allparts US and UK have the same product code listed against their gold pickguards (PG-0582-060), but the pictures are different, one is US and one is the Japanese one. (and as you say, the UK one is out of stock anyway)spacecadet wrote:It is difficult - I have both an AVRI and a CIJ and I looked for one for my CIJ for a while too. Re: So confused about US vs. Japanese pickguards & where to
I just want to update one thing in my last reply - the purple JMJM, and the pickguard at Drums Etc. that I linked, are drilled for the Adjust-o-Matic bridge. I completely forgot about that and somehow missed it even in the pics until now. So you probably don't want that.
The Allparts Japan standard one is the one you want, if you can really find it. That Ebay seller I linked may have it and not even know it.
