"Les Master" project
A friend of mine has bought a Les Paul historic 1956 like this one:
http://www.pinrepair.com/vgi/gibson/56_lespaul_1.jpg
I felt in love with this guitar, the sound is wonderfull.
I've asked to Christophe Huort (known here for this restoration: http://perso.orange.fr/atelkof/Atelkof_ ... ameset.htm) if it was possible to build a Jazzmaster with the specifications of the les paul '56. I'm waiting for the estimation but the structure will be nearer a SG than a Les paul :
Mahogany Body and neck
Rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets, trapezoid inlays, medium jumbo frets.
12"radius, 25.5'' scale length.
Seymour duncan P90.
No pickguard (probably)
goldtop Finish.

Final result:

Oh, he's the guy who is making the VI parts people on the board(including myself) are ordering now. Cool!

why 25.5 scale?
i think a large part of the gibson experience is the 24.75 scale. slinky bending, darker tone, etc.

Sounds like fun. P90s and a slab of mahogany is a match made in heaven. I played my R6 and my SG Classic a little today with your project in mind. It seems that some of the bite and honk of the P90s in the R6 is translated into pure unadulterated snarl on the slab SG. The longer scale might place things somewhere in between. Whatever the case, I'll bet it sounds great. Keep us posted.
Bigger in sum than parts.

That's right, it's my first idea cause I often feel an incomfort with shorter scale but nothing is final. I will choose the happy medium between Comfort and sound.brunning wrote: why 25.5 scale?

What are those other two bound necks? They look like they have the JM headstock. Does he make those as well? How about dots and binding?

Re: "Les Paulmaster" 56' project
It's a model he has built from a 1961 JM.
I definitly go with a 25.5 radius, I want the JM comfort.
what do you want to know about binding?

Does he (or would he) make a neck with Jazzmaster headstock plus dots and binding, is the question .. at least, that's my question!
