easiest possible humbucker mod?

Post by rorschah » Sun Jul 29, 2007 7:01 pm

Any tips on really easy ways to get humbuckers in?

I sort of just want to wire in one of my humbuckers and give it a go, without having to screw around with getting new pickguards. Is this even possible?

Is it impossible to do with humbuckers I have on hand? I have some spare Duncans...

Not without modifying the pickguard and routing the body.  The pickups won't fit under your covers and will be too deep due to the mounting tabs.  I'd sell the Duncans and get Novaks or at least one Novak over making an irreversible mod.

If these are humbuckers you know for sure you will be keeping in this Jazzmaster, one option would be to snap off the height adjustment tabs, then they'll fit under your covers and you can use the regular foam with them.  If you change your mind and decide to stick them in another guitar, you can buy replacement base plates, but you'll have to de-solder the ground from the old one to the new one.
One more guitar, then I'll practice!
